Book Description

9 Jun 2005
All you need to know in one small handbag sized book, packed full of clear stitch diagrams and instructions - plus 20 simple projects to make. "Learn to Crochet" is the only book you will need to learn to create beautiful crocheted garments from your own hook. The book is packed with detailed information on yarns and threads, hook types and sizes, plus step-by-step guidance on holding a hook and yarn, making a loop to basic stitches and much more. All of the teaching sections have clear colour artwork and diagrams, teamed with colour photography of real-life examples of crocheted items, ideal for the beginner. The book also comes with an outstanding gallery of 20 simple projects to make (easy, intermediate and advanced) - with garments for accessories and home furnishings, using gorgeous yarns from Anchor, Coats and Patons: Anchor Magic; Anchor Orion; Anchor Pearl Cotton (No. 5); Coats Aida No. 10 and No. 5; Coats Eldorado; Coats Lyric 8/4; Coats Lyric 8/8; Coats Mercer Crochet No. 20; and, Patons Diploma Gold DK. The delightful projects include: A Treble-Crochet Scarf, which is made with only two yarns despite its multi-coloured look; and a gorgeous String Bag, trimmed with beautiful glass beads - ideal for shopping as it stretches when filled, or to take to the beach on holiday as it squeezes into your luggage! There is also a stunning Scallop Cushion which is quick and easy to make, but the design is classic yet contemporary and would finish off any room with a touch of flair and style. Each project has detailed instructions, a requirements list and tension guide, together with a gorgeous colour photograph of the finished project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supremely easy to follow! 24 Sep 2005
Format:Paperback
Having tried learning to crochet numerous times and just not getting it, I went for this book as it has pictures and seemed really easy to follow. And it was! My aim was to learn to crochet granny squares, and now I can! It has step-by-step guides with pictures, and patterns that get progressively more involved, but never impossible. I would highly recommend this book, and it's very cheap too!

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought I knew how to crochet 2 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If like me you thought you could muddle buy and produce the odd item, more by chance than judgement this is a must. Excellent instruction, very clear diagrams and you can be uptodate with today's fashions by just adding a very simple edge to some ordinary knitted, fleece etc items.
I would really recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crochet basics book 26 April 2009
By A reader VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
"Learn to Crochet" is a wonderful book of crochet basics. It is 80 page, beautifully illustrated and, in my opinion, would make a great gift.
I always wanted to learn to crochet but didn't have a teacher. I tried to crochet some edgings using this book and they turned out quite fine.
This book teaches about yarns and threads, hooks types and sizes, holding crochet hook, holding yarn, making a loop, foundation chain, basic stitches, double crochet, half trebles, treble crochet, tension, working from patterns (chrochet abbreviations and terminology UK/US explained), working in rounds, working fillet crochet, simple crochet edgings, gallery of projects (how to make pot holder, circular cushion, striped cushions, colourwork bags, treble crochet scarf, string bag, coin purse, scallop cushion, scarf, cotton afghan, wool aghan, lacy cushion and christmas decorations).
It is really a beginner's crochet book, very simple, very attractive, informative and I like the simple projects at the back (I only would crochet simple things). Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, idea for beginners 4 Jan 2011
By Elisa
Format:Paperback
I just finished uni and was thinking what to do now with me new free-time with not having to read and write for my degree anymore...knitting and crocheting came to my mind and that book is marvellous. It explains very well stitches, has interesting pattern in it such as eg a bag (sort of handbag), christmas decortion, cushions, afghan and pot holder in it.

It also explains many different patterns and explains how to measure the tension.

I am very happy about this purchase and consider this to be a great book to learn the basics of crocheting.

I like the patterns this book has, but for an absolute beginner, I found some of the instructions a bit beyond my ability. This will be very good once I have mastered the basics.
