My 16 month old son loves playing with my mobile phone and my husband's blackberry so I was looking for a toy for Christmas that would keep him occupied and away from our phones. I read the description of this leapfrog toy and thought it might be good for my son, even though the recommended age is 3+. I am so glad I ignored the minimum age suggestion. My son LOVES the text and Learn. I think it is a great toy for young children just learning to speak. The alphabet keys are easy for small fingers to press and when pressed the voice states the letter and the sound the letter makes (for example 'F' as in 'phhh for flapping frogs'. ) The screen also shows animations of the description being given which is both entertaining and educational. There are a couple of 'games' as part of this toy, which are currently above my sons ability, but this is just something we will have to look forward to in the future. If I had one complaint it would be that the toy does not come with a plastic screen protector. We have only had the toy for 5 days and already the screen is pretty scratch up. We bought our own, but it would make sense to include one as this toy is designed for toddlers so you need to expect it to take some abuse. Overall a great toy which I can see my son getting lots of enjoyment out of!

I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT FOR MY 5 YEAR OLD GRANDAUGHTER,SHE DID NOT LIKE IT AT FIRST,BUT WITH HELP FROM MYSELF NOW LOVES IT. SHE CAN CONTROL THE WHOLE PRODUCT HERSELF AND LOVES SCOUT THE DOG. SHE IS REPEATING THE LETTERS, SOUNDS, AND THE DAYS OF THE WEEK,AND PLAYS THE GAMES ON THE MACHINE WITHOUT ANY HELP. NOW....THE NEGATIVE THING ABOUT THE MACHINE IS THE SCREEN LIGHT! IT IS VERY DIM, WHICH IS ANNOYING AS YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT IS ON THE SCREEN UNLESS YOUR ROOM IS FULLY LIT. SO NO USING IT BY LAMPLIGHTS,OR WHILE LYING IN BED WITH A NIGHT LIGHT. SHAME AS THE VOLUME IS GREAT, 2 SETTINGS, AND THE MACHINE IS DURABLE AND A LOVELY SIZE TO CARRY.OUR 3YR OLD GRANDAUGHTER ALSO LIKES IT,I MUST SAY WITH ALL ELECTRONIC LEARNING MACHINES I DO INTEND TO PUT THEM ON A SHELF AFTER PLAY AND NOT THROW THEM INTO A TOY BOX,SO THAT THEY LOOKED AFTER WELL.MAYBE IN TIME LEAPFROG WILL IMPROVE THE LIGHT AND BRING OUT A COLOUR SCREEN VERSION INSTEAD OF BLACK AND WHITE,THAT WOULD MAKE IT A 5 STAR PRODUCT! HOWEVER IT IS STILL WORTH THE MONEY AND I DO RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR 4-7 YR OLDS.

I purchased Leapfrog Scout Text & Learn Messenger as a christmas present for my daughter,worth the money,suitable for children aged between 3-4 years old,would be better with a few more activites.Good size & quite hardwearing.

I bought this for my 2 year old. It was cheaper than buying in the shops, a great educational toy which he loves an stands up to the abuse he gives it.

Bigger than you think !
Brought this as my son loves my mobile phone. Its much bigger than a phone but my son loves it. He is only 9 months old so its not really aimed at his age but he likes it. Read more
