Amazon.co.uk Review

The Mother Goose Songbook is designed for use with the award-winning LeapPad early learning system. Simple accessible and utterly intriguing, this nifty little book slots on to the LeapPad and allows children to use a magic pen to play individual notes, learn to sing 14 Mother Goose songs and introduce them to the fundamentals of music.

Touch any note to play the chosen song one note at a time, touch the letters to play one syllable at a time, touch Mother Goose to learn the song line by line or touch one of the icons at the bottom of the page to change the instruments that are playing the song.

A fantastic, educational and fun product for young children, the Mother Goose Songbook is a dream of an interactive learning experience that children will devour and parents will love. (Age 4 to 7) --Susan Harrison

4.0 out of 5 stars 'American' Mother Goose? 5 Sep 2002
By A Customer
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this title for my youngest sons 4th birthday, and although he thought it was very entertaining, he was a bit puzzled by some of the tunes. Out of the 13 nursery rhymes in the book, 8 of them (including his favourite nursery rhyme Jack & Jill) have different tunes to what he sings at home and at nursery school. Also, he was a little put off by the obvious american accents used and the 'operatic' voices of the few adult singers. However, the paper keyboard at the back of the book is very educational and entertaining for him.

All in all, this is a very good song book. It's just a shame that no-one thought to include an English version of the nursery rhymes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mother Goose up-to-date? 16 Sep 2001
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The Mother Goose book, like others in the series is great fun for kids, but I was disappointed that the songs chosen were all older nursery rhymes. I think a few more up-to-date children's songs would have given it wider appeal. Also the singing voice was not what I would have chosen. Children respond better to other children singing, or a cartoon character singing. Other than these points the interactive music and singing has a strong appeal to kids. Not as strong an appeal as could have been made but worth the money for hours of fun, either for parents and child or the child alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars LeapPad Fan 13 Dec 2005
Durability: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
My 2 & 5 year olds have loved pretty much all of the output from LeapPad International, so I was surprised and hugely disappointed to find the Mother Goose Songbook just wasn't up to the high standard of the other books. American accents and American versions of many songs completely confused the kids.

I understand that localising software is expensive, but something as culturally engrained as nursery rhymes either has to be done properly or not done at all. Imagine Microsoft selling Excel in the UK without '£' signs.

My wife wrote to the company offering to help translate the book for free. The bland response she received suggests a company keen to globalise a fantastic concept but unwilling to pay attention to the kind of detail which could really give them an edge.
