We have a new leapster 2 for my four year old who is really loving it. But we had only been using it a few hours and when we turned it off for lunch ( 15mins!) the screen was completely unresponsive when we tried to switch it back on just like the reviewer below. I remember reading this review before purchase and got the manual out and recalibrated the screen and it is working for now. Not impressed though. It is not something a child can do and it is a toy that you want them to pick up and be free to use without an adult having to "fix" it every time.

News flash !!!....as an update... i finally gave in and took it back to ELC. Got another from Toys r us and it works perfectly. It is a good game for a four year old in the car and when working properly as this one is can be fun. The star wars clone wars game is good for basic maths for 5-6 year old but with lots of fun and blasting too.

I bought this for my son's 6th birthday. He loves it and it is educational but also so much fun. However, I find that ever other time he turns it on the touch screen stops working, requiring me to recalibrate it. OK, so this only takes a minute, but is frustrating for him and me. More annoyingly, the online connection facility that it boasts does not seem to be working for me. I've followed all Leapfrogs instructions to the letter, but my son's rewards and saved pictures are not appearing on his profile's home page. I am currently in contact with their support team about this, so I'll hopefully get it sorted soon?!

Having said all this, he does love it and would be on it all the time if I didn't stop him!

OK, time for an update. Leapfrog support helped to get the SD card formatted. The calibration problem just seemed to sort itself! I hasn't needed recalibrating for weeks now. And the Leapfrog Connect online is now up and running. Yipee! We are all happy now. Great learning toy.

I had previously refrained from getting my 4yr old son into computers too early as with most young boys these things can become addicted especially as he gets older. I purchased this toy after my son broke his leg and he was frustrated at not being able move around and play his usual games. I was extremely impressed with the unit, it is both durable and high quality, it doesn't brake when dropped or chucked across the bedroom! I was very impressed with the educational value of in-built games supplied with the unit; there is a drawing tool good for the imagination, and game which requires smart thinking. We also purchased the SONIC game, the maths questions asked during the game, aid my son in his early understanding of summations. My son had no previous experience of using this type of game, and quickly picked it up, it's improved his finger dexterity and is an ideal learning tool, parents should not hesitate to consider this a learning tool, its in the disguise of a personal games console but much more valuable to children's development than similar items in the marketplace. I have purchased a few Leapgfrog learning products and I have not been disappointed. We also purchased the carry case, ideal for storing additional games cartridges so they dont get lost.LeapFrog Leapster 2 GreenLeapFrog Leapster2 Sonic XLeapFrog Leapster2 Carry Case

We bought the Leapster 2 for our son's 3rd birthday. He wanted a DS like his big sister but we felt he was a bit too young. This has gone down a storm. Its shaped well for his little hands, can withstand drops and knocks and has games he can actually understand play and learn from. We purchased it with the rechargeable battery pack and the case so he has all the kit and we don't have to fork out for batteries. Highly recommended.

I bought this for my son and daughter for Christmas. When it arrived I had a little play on it myself and got it all set up so they can use it straight away on Christmas Day. I think it is so great that I have just ordered another one in pink as I know they will want one each! Games are pricey but if you shop around you can find some good bargains. Remember that you don't have to buy brand new games, I have bought a couple off Ebay and they work fine at a fraction of the price of new ones. This toy will be great to take on holiday and in the car. Would recommend buying the case too, so the screen does not get scrached.

This Christmas I was absolutely baffled as to what to get my 4 year old sister however thanks to a bit of luck I got this. Like all sensible adults I checked out the product for myself and found it to be rather enjoyable. To enhance the experience I further purchased a game to accompany the gift; Disney Princesses - Worlds of Enchantment. My initial thought was my Christmas gift wouldn't win over her other toys on Christmas day however after the festivities she may enjoy the educational qualities. However I was wrong, she absolutely loved it and wouldn't put it down! She's now had it 8 days and I've already replaced the batteries once she's been on it that much!On the point of battery power I have to say I was impressed the console informs you of dwindling battery power. The only reason I have given this only 4 stars is because the accessories are only just becoming available and I urgently wish to purchase a charger (preferably in Pink to match the console) and a carry case (in Pink again).

I purchased this console in late October and at that point the online learning path was not yet operational however I received an email stating the learning path is now up and running and I have yet to hook it up so see how's my sister is progressing, however the key to this is bargaining with her so she'll let me have for 2 minutes!

All in all a great console; educational, engaging, fantastic graphics, pre-loaded games first rate, and extention games enhances the experience.
