Got this for my son aged 4, who absolutely loves playing this game. He enjoys finding all the hidden items as part of an educational process following and finding the golden pirate coins. He has only played for about 2 hours total, 10-15 minutes at a time and it is hard to get him to put the explorer down sometimes.

My just four year old received this game with his leappad. He hasn't played with it much since although seems to enjoy it when he does. It's good for second language English speakers as there is a lot of repetition of the name of the numbers. Beyond this I think your money is best spend else

A few criticisms and thoughts

The gameplay is hugely repetitive. Especially the "follow the treasure map stage." Actually as my son speaks English as a second language it has been useful for him as he has to "find the blue butterflies". But the characters always say exactly same things and I suspect this gets quickly tedious even for a four year old. Unfortunately this stage is central to the game so you will be hearing a lot of it. This is one game I want to leave the room when he is playing as the soundtrack is so irritating.

Other mini-games are a bit nicer. I think the lava path one is good. The map construction is also good although the controls are very fiddly and my son often thinks he has the answer wrong because he fails to exactly line up a map piece with the position into which it is supposed to be inserted.

In all there are much better games available for the leap pad, although perhaps not so much that focuses on maths. Even here I am not convinced the game is really teaching that much although it has helped my son learn the names of the numbers in English (he knows them already in Portuguese). In all, I wouldn't pay more than 10 pounds for this; I think the dinosaur menu game for download might be a better introductory maths game and is much cheaper. But, I think if you find you must buy it because you want a maths game or your child loves Jake, then buy some headphones to go with it. It is painful to listen to.

This game is fab. Both my 3 year old and 4 year old can work through the various challenges. Educational and fun at the same time!

Bought for my 5 years old he played with it a day or 2 maybe max a week and then lost interest...
He told me it was a boring game and that he is not interested....
Not good money spent for me on this one then!

My 4yr old seems to like this game, although I would argue there seems to be a few better (and cheaper) alternatives available on the LeapPad App store. We also got a Scooby Doo game when we got this - and that also is not as good. However, they are great learning tools and my son doesn't even realise he's learning whilst he's playing. Problem solving, maths, reading, etc. I love the fact you can upgrade the difficulty level through the LeapPad settings, so it can adapt to his growth and learning style.

My daughter who has just turned 3 loves this game; she didn't know of "Jake and the Neverland pirates" before but does now. There are hidden games that I have had to find with her and show her what to do (message in a bottle that has to be found on different pages). But now I have shown her, she has got to grips with this. The stepping stones her her favourite and I have watched her progress on this so that she has to pick specific numbers rather than shapes. She also likes finding the missing shape on the boat and popping the green bubbles. Well worth the money; she is very much into this game even after playing for a few hours.

My son is only just 3 but loves this game. There's plenty he can do and lots for him to progress on to as well. Plus he loves Jake so a good buy.

Bought as first game for the Leappad 2. My 3 1/2 year old can play independently and the games are nice and simple. There is a game that asks to pop the largest/smallest bubble. One to touch numbered stepping stones - this starts as touch all same number, then progresses to touch low to high numbers. There games which require shape sorting to fix the boat and follow clues to find treasure. The game is true to the tv programme with same voices etc.
