5.0 out of 5 stars Clickstart Toy Story, 2 Jan 2008

Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
My child loves Buzz Lightyear, so this was a natural choice as additional game for the Clickstart computer.
The instructions are very easy to follow. Involves use of the mouse and keys on the keyboard.
Involves looking for numbers and shapes, as well finding aliens.
You can choose who you are from Buzz, Woody or Jessie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as much in it as I hoped, 7 Nov 2008

This is the first character based game I have bought for my sons clickstart. We got the art one free with it and I was quite impressed with that as there are about 4 seperate games to play on it and all quite different.
My son was very excited about this game as Toy Story is one of his favourite films (like most kids). When you start the game you get to choose to be either Buzz, Woody or Jessy, then you have to choose a location between 3. Andy's Room, pizza planet and one other. You then choose gameplay difficulty, level 1 or 2 and you're off.
You use arrow keys to move Buzz (or whoever you have picked) but the game only runs to the right in 2D. The object of the game is to collect missing aliens which are dotted around the game, you keep having to stop and solve maths puzzles which in the first level are generally number recognition, 3 numbers appear in the game and buzz has to jump to the number 2 for example and the number 2 is displayed at the top for the child to see while the game reminds you to "find the number 2" - when you jump to the wrong number you get "that's the number 3 - you need the number 2". The high level from what I have seen seems to be mainly about fractions, "find the half pizza" with 3 pizza pics to choose from.
This has helped my son with his number recognition as for 2 days he was thrilled with the game. It's easy to play and tho the graphics aren't great they are recognisable as Toy Story. I was frustrated as my little boy was so keen on playing this but there just isn't enough variation in the game to keep him interested. The game is pretty much the same no matter who you choose and where you go. I don;t think it would have taken them too much to add a few other different games on there to make it a more appealing game. Maybe just a painting game where they could colour in toy story pictures? As it is my son will play it for a little while because it's Toy Story but after 5/10 minutes gets bored. I have given it 3 stars because it is good for early number recognition and he was ridiculously pleased to get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing., 29 Mar 2009
Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
My son loves Toy Story so this was always going to be a hit with him but for value for money I found this a bit disappointing. I found the quality of the graphics quite basic and all it consists of is one game where you chose the character and location and then the child has to answer various questions. I thought they could have more choice of games rather than the same one played over and over again just with a different character in a different place.
I also found it annoying that the 'narrator' who tells the child what they have to do was American. I know the characters would obviously be American but why the narrator?
I know this game is for children and so people could argue the games and graphics should be basic but these games are not cheap so let's get what we pay for.
