Imagination Desk helps to teach as the child colours, touches and plays. It encourages exploration and creativity, develops perceptual skills, enhances cognitive development, improves motor skills and encourages language development. All these skills act together to encourage letters numbers phonic, counting and vocabulary learning.
The toy consists of a brightly coloured, lightweight desk with a carrying handle and a storage place at the back for the colouring book and crayons provided. The colouring book consists of a cartridge (that should be plugged into the side of the desk before beginning) and detachable sheets for each letter of the alphabet. The idea is to place a single sheet in the "Colouring Gallery Template" and place it on top of the desk. Together with the cartridge, this allows children to press "buttons" on the pages as they colour, follow spoken instructions, and discover and learn through the ensuing electronic activities. There are three modes to explore:
It is also possible to create pictures and play tunes by using plain paper on the desk surface--draw a picture and listen to the different music as you go. Other colouring books are available, promoting different aspects of learning, and if you run out of sheets in a particular book, you can call the freephone number printed in the book and re-order replacement sheets.
The Imagination Desk is aimed at children from three-years-old, but help and guidance will be needed for the very youngest users. Accompanying the toy is an excellent Parental Guide and it is advisable to read it before starting. Imagination Desk requires four AA batteries (not provided). --Susan Naylor

We bought this for my 4 yr old daughter and she plays with it every day. It is very easy to use - put in a page from the specially printed book supplied - touch the "Go" spot and off you go. She loves singing along to the songs as she colours in the page and it is helping her to learn her letters.

My daughter received the Imagination desk for her fourth birthday. It is the perfect educational toy for a four year old.The toy allows her to be very independent. As a Reading Specialist, I value the simple introduction to letters and sounds. I was pleased to discover the train with all of the number activities. The volume control is a big plus. This desk keeps her busy for 45 minutes before she tires out. She is retaining all the information she has learned from her new toy. I am anxious to see how printed out pages from the computer work. 42 of 42 people found the following review helpful:

A good learning toy, but future learning just keeps costing.,

This is an intriguing learning toy. I purchased it for my 2 1/2 year old, who is bright and curious and loves working with her letters and numbers. The toy does teach her the alphabet well, and she enjoys coloring and making things happen with the interactive elements. However, the only replacement coloring pages you can download and print from the website are the ones that came with the toy originally. There are four other coloring modules, each one of which requires an additional cartridge. Interestingly, I can't find them to purchase! There is also the offer of a yearly subscription for access to other features and content, but man, if you read all the stuff on the site it seems very involved. And everything is an additional cost, of course. A company is in business to make money, of course, but it does seem that LeapFrog has a tiny bit of bait and switch going on. It's an expensive toy to start with, and just gets more expensive as one investigates further. I can recommend the toy on its own merits, but if you're purchasing the toy with an eye toward future expansion and more content, be aware that the cost will double or triple your initial investment.

MY DAUGHTER GOT THIS TOY BEFORE GOING ON A 9 HOUR CAR RIDE. SHE IS ONLY 21 MONTHS DESPITE THE RECOMENDED AGE OF 3 YEARS ON THE TOY. SHE LOVES IT, WITH ALITTLE HELP FROM ME IT KEPT HER BUSSY FOR HOURS. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS TOY EVEN FOR CHILDREN YOUNGER THEN 3 YEARS. YOU CAN EVEN PRINT MORE COLORING PAGES FROM THE COMPUTER WHEN YOU HAVE USED THEM ALL UP.
