There are three functions to this game: "Learn" mode, which operates on two levels, a completely random and an ordered level; "Quiz" mode, which again operates on two levels, one in which the child chooses two numbers and is given two chances to select the correct answer, and another in which the child is quizzed on a specific times table; and "Thunderbolt" mode, which introduces division by asking the child to fill in the missing number in an equation--for example: "What times four equals eight?"
In all these games Twist and Shout totals the correct number of sums solved and offers congratulations every time five, 10 and 20 questions are correctly answered in a row. An excellent pamphlet for parents and children accompanies the game, and it is easy to follow. The game comes supplied with its own batteries and the only distraction is the American accent, though this is a relatively small point.
According to Michael Wood, LeapFrog president: "Presented as a game, learning the times tables can be engaging--even a blast. Through fun learning we think your child will discover that mathematics is an exciting, satisfying and creative pursuit." Also available: Twist & Shout Addition, Twist & Shout Subtraction and Twist & Shout Division
Based on educationally sound principles, this is a fantastic aid to multiplication that really does help to make maths fun. --Susan Naylor

1. It is an American voice which can be hard to understand.
2. The speaker is very quiet and has to be played with in a silent environment.
3. It seems to get stuck sometimes and asks the same question again and again.
Still a good purchase though and look out for the others ones in the range.
The main problem was that it didn't always work; the connections sometimes failed so my daughter felt frustrated and couldn't get the results she wanted. We ended up sending it back.
