Amazon.co.uk Review

Twist and Shout Multiplication is a well thought out, portable game for teaching children how to multiply numbers together and (indirectly) introducing them to division. The games develop reasoning skills and give plenty of chances to practice logic and problem solving.

There are three functions to this game: "Learn" mode, which operates on two levels, a completely random and an ordered level; "Quiz" mode, which again operates on two levels, one in which the child chooses two numbers and is given two chances to select the correct answer, and another in which the child is quizzed on a specific times table; and "Thunderbolt" mode, which introduces division by asking the child to fill in the missing number in an equation--for example: "What times four equals eight?"

In all these games Twist and Shout totals the correct number of sums solved and offers congratulations every time five, 10 and 20 questions are correctly answered in a row. An excellent pamphlet for parents and children accompanies the game, and it is easy to follow. The game comes supplied with its own batteries and the only distraction is the American accent, though this is a relatively small point.

According to Michael Wood, LeapFrog president: "Presented as a game, learning the times tables can be engaging--even a blast. Through fun learning we think your child will discover that mathematics is an exciting, satisfying and creative pursuit." Also available: Twist & Shout Addition, Twist & Shout Subtraction and Twist & Shout Division

Based on educationally sound principles, this is a fantastic aid to multiplication that really does help to make maths fun. --Susan Naylor

Great at teaching the children times tables but my concerns/comments are :-
1. It is an American voice which can be hard to understand.
2. The speaker is very quiet and has to be played with in a silent environment.
3. It seems to get stuck sometimes and asks the same question again and again.
Still a good purchase though and look out for the others ones in the range.

I bought this toy for my 6 year old cousin around christmas time. Initially, she started using it as a play toy but now she sits with it when she thinks she is alone and goes about quizzing herself. The toy seems to be engaging and my aunt is very pleased with it. It has reduced the time that she has to spend with my cousin for her maths home work! Iam glad I bought it..

The concept of this toy is good, and the design meant it could really work as an educational toy through teaching and reinforcement, although it doesn't leave much opportunity for quiet reflection.
The main problem was that it didn't always work; the connections sometimes failed so my daughter felt frustrated and couldn't get the results she wanted. We ended up sending it back.

How refreshing to see 3 children fighting over who's turn it is next to play with something that is actually educational. The American accent is really annoying, but the children don't seem to mind it, and with headphones plugged in I can't hear it.

This product is a must for anyone struggling with their times tables. It goes back to the idea of chanting the tables. Both my girls have found this very beneficial. They sit down with it and within a very short space of time are able to recall the table they are learning. Excellent product.
