2.0 out of 5 stars well intended but does not deliver 27 Feb 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The book is well intended but these good intentions, did not really deliver.

The scope is a wide one, but has not been tackled in enough depth.
For example the 7 wastes, made up to 8 by adding in behaviour (and why not) would have made a great "thread" to use as in context for all of the parts of the supply chain. Yet, these were covered in just 7 pages.

Contacting the publisher to get the lean assessment tool and the training slides proved to an obstacle course, but we got there eventually.
However the excel tool received was corrupted and the slides were merely a token offering with little practicality.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT another supply chain book .. you can actually use it! 3 Mar 2012
By Ram Mohan - Published on Amazon.com
As a former professor of supply chain and a current practitioner, this book tells me that supply chain has come a long way. This book strings together topics that are necessary to make lean operations successful. Some books cover at a high level without being practical .. but this one has practitioner in mind. From value stream mapping through metrics, every step guides you in implementing the lean way. The House of Lean depicts all topics and their relationships in one picture.

And there are some unique aspects that takes the topis one step further. For example, most companies and major consulting firms do not recognize the differences between cycle and processing time. And these differences have significant impact on bottlenecks and capacity decisions, and more importantly on lead time related metrics. Time-based competition is the last frontier for companies to differentiate when product differentiation is becoming less of a sustainable strategy.

The book does not leave out the staple topics such as value stream mapping. The examples are clear and shows the value of these standard techniques. Finally, no book on management is complete without metrics. There are case studies in the book to demonstrate the value of these techniques. The author has done justice on these topics as well.

Style of writing: humor all through. Makes it easier for reading.

If you are starting a project or do a good bit of work on supply chain improvement, process improvement / harmonization - this is a handy book to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Lean Tool for You 1 Mar 2012
By Jim McKenzie - Published on Amazon.com
Paul Myerson has achieved a perfect balance between academic theory and practical real actionable examples and templates for the reader. The easy read and informative narrative and illustrative style makes it a practical learning and reference tool for the professional beginner, the classroom student and for the experienced lean champion. Paul Myerson's "Lean Supply Chain and Logistics Management" clearly demonstrates that lean is alive and well in the warehouse, on the shipping docks and in the procurement offices, in addition to the traditional factory floor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read 24 Feb 2012
By Todd McCarroll - Published on Amazon.com
This book really teaches you useful tools into making your business as efficient as possible. Great in depth look at case studies as to how a Lean Supply Chain actually works. I personally work with importing and the distribution of furniture, this book gave me invaluable ideas as to how to make our company more efficient with the tools that are already in place. I would recommend it to anybody that is looking to add value to their company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lean Supply Chain & Logistics Management 8 Mar 2012
By Marilyn G - Published on Amazon.com
This new book on Supply Chain Management is so easy to read and clear in its layout.
I especially appreciate how the book provides understandable definitions for a lot of the Supply Chain lingo.

Supply Chain definitely integrates well with lean and six sigma. When lean and six sigma processes are applied to the supply chain, the organization can reap significant results. I definitely appreciate the focus of the book. I find the three are considered as separate processes in most cases.

Case studies are interesting as well as good examples of the material. The book provides easy to understand and easy to implement concepts.

I also like the charts, graphs, and pictures; these help the reader visualize the concepts.

I am getting ready to read the book for the second time to grasp all of the great information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Understandable Approach to a Lean Supply Chain 1 Mar 2012
By Lori S. - Published on Amazon.com
As a novice to the world of Supply Chain & Logistics Management, I have found this book to be a clear
eye opener to the importance of Lean Methodologies in the business world.
Myerson clearly explains the principles of a Lean Supply Chain and how it can reduce waste and provide
a continuously improving environment.
The highlight of the book is the author's use of real world case studies. These studies provide a
clear understanding of Lean principles placed into action.
I praise Myerson for taking a difficult subject and basically boiling it down to an interesting,
informative and easy read!
