The beauty of this book is that it's written from a practitioner's perspective; Phil Hayes obviously loves teams. With real flesh and blood case studies, the book is usefully organised into themes, that you can dip into according to your current management need. I have found the chapters on 'Handling the problematic team' and 'The challenge of the high performing team' particularly useful in my day-to-day work. The themes of team membership and belonging are powerful, ongoing motifs within the book. Furthermore, the author introduces chapters with affectionate, often very funny, reflections from his own childhood and working life which engage and reassure. I would recommend this to any manager, coach or team leader as a practical guide to develop and strengthen any team.
