You will have to be a real 'nit-picker' to find fault with this latest Larousse presentation! I have used a number of their French language encyclopaedias dating back to 1980 and found them all excellent. Each new version has improved upon and increased the content of its predecessor. All are entitled 'Le Petit Larousse' and they still adorn my bookshelves. This latest acquisition is the best of the bunch, by far! I chose 'Le Grand Larousse' as I suspected that it would be an enhanced and enlarged version of the current 2014 'Petit' one, albeit with similar content. Given the dimensions and number of pages, I'm sure this is the case. In any event, I'm absolutely delighted with my choice. It is a large and heavy tome which you will not want to carry very far, but it will supply any Francophile with probably everything they will ever want to know about modern France and its language (and a few other things as well). The contents are fascinating and wide-ranging and they are presented with tender loving care. Like its predecessors, the big single volume is divided into two main sections. The first part is an encyclopaedic dictionary ; the second a combination of who's who and where's where, with great maps and biographic pen-pictures. It is, similarly, built to last and magnificently crafted with both parts alphabetically arranged and beautifully, and prolifically, illustrated. What's more, you won't need a magnifying glass to read the contents. This was an increasing problem with some of the earlier versions I own in an attempt to cram in more information. Additional use of colour and a variety of fonts make it even easier for the reader to find what is sought. And, if you seek the best, you have found it in this book and buying it really is a 'no-brainer'.Read more ›

I won't add to the superlatives bestowed by other reviewers. Suffice it to say that for French-English translation work, this is an absolutely indispensable source-language dictionary. Better than the corresponding Robert offering IMHO.
