Inside enamel breaks down and rust spots appear. I am delighted with my stove top kettle which takes only a fraction longer to boil than an electric. It looks great sitting on my range and as I have limited work surfaces in my kitchen it makes perfect sense. The whistle is loud enough to hear from the living room and gets louder and angrier the longer you take to switch it off. Do wait a few secounds before pouring as the bottom retains heat and will still be bubbling.

Bought this kettle as we thought it would last for years to come. Within a couple of months the handle snapped in two, this was duly replaced by Le Creuset, the whistle fell out of the new one after a couple of months and in just over a year rust bubbles started forming on the inside, the rust got so bad that we eventually had to throw it in the bin this week. Stainless steel next time!

Rusty kettle
The kettle developed a rusty interior within several months of use, imbuing each cup of tea with pepper-like flakes. On the other hand, the exterior wears well.
