I have found splatter guards disappointing on the whole but this Le Creuset version is very good. It is very lightweight whilst still offering the robustness I have come to expect from the Le Creuset brand and features a silicone rim on the underside that enables it to sit firmly on a range of frying pans (stated as suitable for 26 to 30 cm diameter). It looks quite elegant with a stainless steel rim around the top edge; as much as a splatter guard can look elegant anyway.
The handle folds flat so storage is nice and easy, as is washing up (in the dishwasher for me).
The main reason for having a splatter guard is, of course, to ensure that fat doesn't coat all of your surfaces in close proximity to the pan. The mesh is really quite fine and, even when frying fairly watery food, the amount of fat that managed to escape was much reduced. It doesn't achieve the level of splatter reduction you would associate with using a lid but it is pretty close whilst still allowing steam to escape.
I have not been disappointed with this splatter guard in use and the fact that it uses up so very little drawer space is an added bonus.
