Energy Efficient
Once hot you will require only a low to medium heat setting to maintain a good cooking performance, they can even be removed from the heat leaving the food to cook in it’s own heat. These heat retention properties mean that a Le Creuset dish will keep warm for longer at the table.

Care and Use:

Before first use: remove all labels. Wash the pan in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Pans with enamelled cooking surfaces are now ready for use and require no further preparation.

Heat Sources: Le Creuset cast iron cookware can be used on all heat sources. Gas, electric solid or radiant plates, vitroceramic glass, induction, and ranges fired by gas, oil, coal or wood. When using on any glass stovetops always follow the manufacturer’s guidance for use of your cookware. Never drag pans across the glass, but lift on and off, or from one heat zone to another. The enamel surfaces are not suitable for dry cooking. Your choice of liquid, oil, fat or butter should completely cover the base before heating begins.

Oven Temperatures: For black phenolic lid knobs and handles use a maximum temperature of 190 degrees Celsius, 375 degrees Fahrenheit or Gas 5 (Europe gas setting 6). For products with integral cast iron handles or stainless steel knobs the maximum oven use temperature is 230 degrees Celsius / 450 degrees Fahrenheit / Gas Mark 8 (Europe gas setting 9). Note: Wooden handles must not be placed in the oven.

Range Stoves with Cast Iron Oven Linings: Do not place any cookware on the floor of these ovens. Cook only on the racks provided. Integral cast iron handles or stainless steel knobs will become hot during stovetop as well as oven use. Use a dry, thick cloth, or Le Creuset oven mitts, for handling these at all times.

How to use:

Medium and low heats will provide the best results for the majority of cooking, including frying and searing. Allow the pan to heat gradually and thoroughly, as this will give the most even and efficient cooking results. Once the pan is hot almost all cooking can be continued on lower settings.

High heats should only be used for boiling water for vegetables or pasta, or for reducing the consistency of stocks and sauces. High heats should never be used to pre-heat a pan before lowering the heat for cooking. Cast iron retains heat so well that if a pan is overheated in this way it will contribute to poor cooking results, sticking and discolouration of cooking surfaces.

Match the pan base to the heat zone to maximize efficiency and prevent overheating of pan sides or damage to handles. Long handles should be positioned safely so that they do not overhang the front of your stovetop, or over other heat zones. Do not heat an empty pan or allow a pan to boil dry. Either may cause permanent damage to the enamel and pan.

For stirring comfort and surface protection use Le Creuset heat resistant silicone utensils, heat resistant plastic or wooden tools. Occasional use of metal utensils may leave silver trail marks over the surface. Do not knock metal utensil on the rims of cookware, this will eventually damage the enamel.

Note: Do not cut foods directly on any enamel or non-stick surface.

Place hot pans on Le Creuset silicone mats, wooden boards, or trivets. Never place a hot pan directly on an unprotected surface. We recommend using Le Creuset oven mitts for lifting hot pans at all times.

Electric hand held beaters or mixers should not be used in any cookware. Permanent damage to all surfaces will be caused.

After use always cool a pan for a few minutes before washing in hot soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not fill a hot pan with cold water or plunge into cold water as thermal shock damage to the enamel may occur.

If there are food residues fill the pan with warm water and leave to soak for 15 – 20 minutes, then wash in the usual way. Nylon or soft abrasive pads or brushes can be used to remove stubborn residues. Do not use metallic pads, or harsh abrasive cleaning agents, as these will damage the enamel and polished trims.

Light stains or metal trail marks (caused by metal tools) can be removed with Le Creuset Cookware cleaner. An occasional conditioning clean with this product will also retain the new appearance and polish of your pans.

Cleaning

All pans with integral cast iron, phenolic handles, or stainless steel lid knobs, can be washed in the dishwasher. When using the dishwasher always allow the cycle to complete before opening the door. This will ensure the pans are dried thoroughly.

Note: Wooden handle pans are not dishwasher safe.

Maintain the tightness of all handles and knobs by checking and re-tightening them regularly. Le Creuset enamelled cast iron is extremely durable, but it may be damaged if accidentally dropped or knocked against a hard surface.

Having had several sets of pans including stainless steel, non-stick, IKEA, Russell Hobbs etc. - and having had all of the pans fail at some point, sometimes within just a couple of months - Tesco (No) Value, despite following care instructions supplied, I decided it was time to invest in some 'proper pans'. Yes, these are expensive but they are worth it! Excellent heat distribution, actual non-stick surfaces, robust and resilient, these pans will definitely last you a lifetime, and if not, they come with a guarantee to ensure they will. Think about the number of times you've had to replace your pans, and you'll find they're excellent value for money and a definite investment. My only criticism would be the weight. Even the smallest of the 3 pans is heavy as they are made of cast iron. That said, I have also added a Le Creuset casserole dish to my collection and plan to expand it further with some more quality Le Creuset cookware.

Super set of 3 saucepans, with lids, from LE CREUSET.

Colour - VOLCANIC

1 each of:

16 cm : approximate capacity - 1.2L
18 cm : approximate capacity - 1.8L
20 cm : approximate capacity - 2.5L

Suitable for left or right handed cooks, each cast iron saucepan has deeper side walls and a new anti-drip pouring lip.
Instead of the old wooden handle, the longer handle is made of phenolic and there is now an additional side assist handle which aids balanced lifting but don't forget your oven gloves.
The lid has a venting hole/the knob is black.

Easy to use and clean by hand, although some soaking and a rub with a plastic brush may be required for the more stubborn food remains.

Buy it and you'll never regret! This set is really amazing!
Very easy to clean, and the sizes are perfect. I use it every day.
It cooks a bit faster than others, so take care, otherwise you could burn your food.
I love them and strongly recommend!

As a wedding present, almost 30 years ago we were given a set of these pans. Eventually the screw threads on the inside of the handles went because we kept unscrewing and screwing back on the wooden handles to allow us to put them through the dishwasher.

We then replaced with an expensive set of non-stick pans (costing roughly the same as these) and I have regretted this decsion time after time.

Now, new Le Crueset pans have arrived and I'm happy again.

There have been modifications over the last thirty years:

- they now have heat resistant plastic handles which are OK for low oven temperatures and, more importantly, OK for the dishwasher; a significant improvement on the old wooden handles
- instead of the spout, they now have 'lips' to make pouring possible. The difference being the spout was on one side, the lips are on both sides, making the pans suitable for pouring when holding in either left of right hand (instead of only being able to pour when holding in your right hand)
- the lids now have a steam vent hole; necessary as previously the spout had provided this function
- they now have a lifetime guarantee, although if they last 30 years, the lifetime of the pans and my lifetime are probably a 'dead' heat :-)
- there is a handle (in reality a wide stub) opposite the handle allowing them to be lifted using two hands, although you will need oven gloves to hold this metal stub.

So, overall, excellent quality which should last my lifetime and with many improvements over the last three decades.

Highly recommended - you will never regret purchasing these.

These are replacements for a set bought 35 years ago, which are now getting a little chipped round the edges.
Still the same, although the pouring lip has now been replaced by a pouring edge all the way round. Not sure if we like it, but will no doubt get used to it. The quality is still the best.

These were a wedding present, wanted by the bride because she knows the set we've been using for thirty-odd years.
Totally indestructible, almost always non-stick and easy to clean when gunked up with burnt stuff. The only way to cook.
