Product Description

This round dish is ideal for casseroles, stews, roasting and perfect for preparing soups and rice dishes, even for baking bread or cakes. The cast iron casserole is the essential kitchen classic from Le Creuset, suitable for all heat sources.

Fired at temperatures of 840 degrees Celsius, the smooth enamel finish of Le Creuset cast iron is durable and hygienic. This means that everything you stew, braise or simmer in a Le Creuset piece will taste just as good as you intended. It also means your dishes will keep looking good from the hob to the oven and from the oven to the table.

Slate Cast Iron Range

Le Creuset pays homage to the origins of its Cast Iron cookware by introducing a new, contemporary colour, Slate. Using state-of-the-art enamelling techniques, Le Creuset have produced an enamelled finish with a tactile, “raw Cast Iron” look, but with all the benefits of an enamelled product. The neutral colour blends effortlessly with many of the existing colours in the Le Creuset range and is sure to appeal to those who desire stylish simplicity or a stripped-back, natural look. The Slate Cast Iron range includes, round, oval and shallow casseroles, the 26cm Square Grillit®, Rectangular Grill, 26cm Frying Pan and 20cm Omelette pan.

About Le Creuset

A lifetime spent crafting the finest cookware. Le Creuset has been making superb, award winning cookware since 1925 and the secret recipe of ingredients remains the same today. Each piece is made from a unique mould into which molten iron is poured from a large cauldron (called a creuset). This creates a unique piece, each with its own identity and style. The piece is then hand finished and subjected to strict quality checks. Finally the cast iron is enamelled at extremely high temperatures to create the vibrant lustre and hard finish which looks great in the home.

Cast Iron Facts

Suitable for use in the oven, on the hob and under the grill. Cast iron can also be used on all heat sources, including Aga’s and induction hobs. It can withstand temperatures up to 190 degrees Celsius. Its excellent heat retention qualities mean that only low to medium heat is needed to ensure even heat distribution.

Hygienic:

The enamel cooking surface is completely hygienic and impervious to flavours, odours and acid attack. It is perfect to hold foods that are marinating or for storing foods (raw or cooked) in the refrigerator or freezer.

Adaptability:

Ceramic, halogen or induction hobs, gas, electric, solid fuel or Aga/Rayburn Le Creuset cast iron will work excellently on all. Whether you are sautéing, grilling, baking, roasting or stewing there is a pot, pan or dish to suit your needs. Le Creuset cookware is available in a wide range of colours that will suit both your kitchen and dining table.

Energy Efficient:

Once hot you will require only a low to medium heat setting to maintain a good cooking performance. You can even remove it from the heat, leaving the food to cook in its own heat. This excellent heat retention means that a Le Creuset dish will keep warm for longer at the table.

Care and Use

Before first use: remove all labels. Wash the pan in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Pans with enamelled cooking surfaces are now ready for use and require no further preparation. For detailed information on heat sources, how to cook with and get the best from your Le Creuset Cast Iron and how to care for your chosen product, please consult our comprehensive Care and Use Guide located inside the box.

I have dreamed of owning a Le creuset caserole for years. My mum has a set and I have always admired the beauty and versatility of them.
Thanks to Amazon I found this one for a snip at some £40 odd and snapped their hands off.
I dont care what people say, the Mocha colour is lovely. It goes lovely on my table with my chocolate brown tablewear and cooks beautifully.
I keep it pride of place on the hob and nearly everyone who walks in my kitchen comments on it and how they would love one.
I love it and would recomend this 24cm size for a family. Not too big and not too small. I can cook a large caserole for 6 people no problem.

I bought one of these several months ago.
They're much heavier that they look. I should know, I carried round Manchester from the cookshop to the car!
Since then it's been used for all kind of different things, stews, chilli, even Mulled Wine.
It cleans up really easily, hand washed or through the dishwasher, and still looks brand new.
Yes, it is quite expensive, but you really do get what you pay for - decent quality & hard wearing.
I expect this will still look just as new in several years time.

Colour Name: Satin Black
COLOUR : Matt finish 'SATIN BLACK', with black interior (*) complete with lid, offset by the smart new stainless steel knob.

Approximate capacity : 4.2L

Sturdily boxed, with full CAST IRON/SATIN BLACK use & care instructions supplied.

'Enamelled cast iron is a traditional and strong material, ideal for lower temperature cooking, retaining heat better than any material. The balanced heat distribution eliminates 'hot spots' and allows for easier cooking for even the most delicate of recipes. Heating quickly and evenly, it is the perfect material for browning, braising, reducing, or caramelizing.
Retains heat for a longer period of time, therefore allowing food to be served hotter at the table.'

My favourite recipe in this particular size is 'Scotch Broth', which simmers away gently and provides a tasty serving of steamy hot soup for anyone who passes through.
Sue Cutts, has a tasty recipe - 'Comfort Chicken', serving 6, on page 18 of her useful book, The Cast Iron Way to Cook.

'Cleaning Satin Black Enamel

* Do not attempt to remove the patina (the brownish black film) which is produced on a satin black surface. This enhances the cooking performance and food release from the surface.
* Always cool the hot pan for a few minutes before washing.
* When possible rinse the pan in hot water and wipe over the surface with a damp cloth. This may be possible if the pan is used for regular cooking of foods where the food residues are minimal. For more thorough washing use hot soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly, this will not affect the patina.

Colour Name: Cerise
Superb pot, lovely colour, easy to clean even if your food burns, no need to oil pan before use, quality second to none... They heat up slower than aluminium sauce pans, but distribute the heat better and retain the heat for longer; therefor suitable for many types of cooking (browning, braising, reducing, caramelizing, making soups, etc), and of course great for slow cooking. I personally use them a lot in Asian (Thai & Indonesian) and French cooking.

I got my Le Crueset Cast Iron Casserole pots some 3 years ago. I started off with 1 and quickly became 8 in different sizes and colours. I ordered them online, but not through Amazon, and all of them arrived in the best of condition and quality.

The 24 cm pot is a good size casserole pot for a family of 4, it would probably fit a small chicken in.

As with other Cast Iron products this pot is heavy, so if you have weak muscles or back like I do, you will need someone to help you out with this pot in the kitchen.

To give you some idea, below are my Red 24cm Pot's specifications (approx.):

Portion : 4-5
Volume : 4.2L
Lid weight : 1.55 kg
Pot weight : 2.45kg
Total weight : 4 kg
Height : 10.5 cm
Max oven temperature : the black phenolic lid knob up to 190C/375F, but Integral cast iron handles or stainless steel knobs can be used at 230C/446F or higher.

Colour Name: Volcanic Verified Purchase
Have had a 24cm Le Creuset Casserole for nigh on 30yrs - enamel was wearing through in places, so time for a replacement. This one is identical to the old one in every respect - when you've got a perfect design, why change it. Not cheap but managed to pick a great deal through Amazon Warehouse.

Tip: if the enamel surface gets burned on stains - particularly likely when frying things like onions - rather than using a scourer to remove - takes ages and lot of elbow grease - use neat bleach - yes - bleach and leave to soak over night. Stains - even blackened charring is removed without the need to scour. As the surface is enamel, bleach won't damage or the surface or leave any taste taint.

I have had many le creuset casseroles over the years and they have always had ground bases which are good for using with an Aga. This casserole has an enamelled base which does not make good contact with the hot plates. Why have they changed the design of a well known product ?
