Product Description

Product Description

Ceramic Baking Beans prevent blistering and shrinkage and are especially helpful in making pies and pastry dishes. They are completely heat resistant and are re-usable.

The runny fillings of many flans and tarts will stop the pastry base cooking crisply, so spoiling its texture and taste. This can be overcome by baking the pastry case empty before putting in the filling.

Whether you are baking a lemon meringue pie, tart or a fruit flan, enjoy a crisp pastry case by baking blind using Ceramic Baking Beans.

About Le Creuset

A lifetime spent crafting the finest cookware. Le Creuset has been making superb, award winning cast iron cookware since 1925 and the secret recipe of ingredients remains the same today. Each piece is made from a unique mould into which molten iron is poured from a large cauldron (called a creuset). This creates a unique piece, each with it’s own identity and style. The piece is then hand finished and subjected to strict quality checks. Finally the cast iron is enamelled at extremely high temperatures to create the vibrant lustre and hard finish which looks great in the home.

Le Creuset offers a lifetime guarantee on all cast iron (except non-stick items which carry a 10-year guarantee). You will feel the difference as our cast iron is 9 percent lighter than the leading competitor and with a perfectly flat base it is great for all hobs including glass and ceramic. It also distributes heat more evenly ensuring there are no ‘hot spots’.

Le Creuset Guarantee

Le Creuset is proud of the workmanship in its products and guarantees its enamelled cast iron cookware, from the date of purchase, for the lifetime of the original owner, whether a self purchase or received as a gift. The lifetime guarantee covers faulty workmanship and materials when the product is used in normal domestic household conditions, and in accordance with the care and use instructions provided. It does not cover normal wear and tear or misuse of the product. See Care & Use booklet for full details of guarantee.

To claim under this guarantee firmly attach to the cookware your printed name, address and nature of the complaint, together with the name of the retailer, if known.

This Lifetime Guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

    I have been looking for beans for a while and love the Le Creuset brand. The beans are sturdy and do the job that I require them for. The tub is durable and appears like it will last a while without me having to transfer to another pot. Postage was quick and I would reccommend this product.

    Fantastic product, worked better than any other ceramic baking beans I have ever used (could have done with more tomato sauce though).

    I have used my tub of baking beans for more years than I care to remember; they have survived my first attempt at blind baking (when I didn't know that the inside of the pastry case needed to be lined with paper and therefore the beans stuck to the pastry, leading to a bit of a disaster) to being dropped on the floor (surprisingly none of them broke!).

    My tip to anyone using baking beans for the first time is therefore to make sure that you line your pastry case with paper before you add the beans! As well as ensuring the beans do not stick to and therefore ruin the pastry, the paper also allows you to lift all of the hot beans out of the case so that they can be left to cool. Once they have cooled, they can be returned to the plastic tub (still going strong after rather a lot of years).

    I have recently purchased a second tub of baking beans, solely because I found I needed a few more beans to hand so that I could bake more than one pastry case at a time. This tub size contains sufficient to bake one case (properly) at a time, so you may wish to consider buying two tubs (or larger alternatives) if you do a lot of baking. Mine have been worth every penny of investment.

    Another fantastic Le Creuset product. Baking beans mean the end of soggy pastry and this product makes for an attractive tub to have in my cupboard.

    My order was supplied in a sturdy plain outer cardboard box.

    This is a robust tub of 'CERAMIC BAKING BEANS', with strong white lid, made in the EEC for LE CREUSET, for the blind baking of pastry cases.
    The weight of the beans helps to prevent the base and sides of a small tart case from rising, when baking without a filling.

    Tub dimensions (all sizes approximate, based on my own)

    * Base diameter 8.5 cm top diameter 10 cm, height 7.5 cm

    Net Weight : 500g

    The tub is designed to be used for storage when the beans are not in use and carries the following information:

    * Washable, hygienic, virtually indestructible
    * Fireproof
    * Superior to dried peas, beans or rice
    * Conducts heat for even cooking inside pastry case
    * Contents: ceramic sphere (Ave. Size 10mm diameter)

    Along with the warning that:

    'Beans must be cool before they are returned to container.'

    These ceramic baking beans are one of those kitchen essentials that I am really glad to have in my kitchen. I admit to being a bit of a name snob so although there are plenty of other versions available I chose Le Creuset as I know it is a brand I can trust.

    I cook a lot of pastry cases and these beans ensure that they don't rise unevenly and that the bottoms crisp up before the filling is added.

    I like to spread the beans fairly thickly and I've found that there are enough beans in this pot for a small pastry case, around 7-8 inches. However, for a larger 10-12 inch case I don't think there are enough to do the job properly and I have needed to get a second tub. Also, if you like to cook more than one case at a time then you will definitely need an extra tub.

    Be very careful after baking as these beans get extremely hot and could easily burn you if you try to remove them immediately after taking the case out of the oven. Also, if you try to return them to the plastic storage box too quickly they can damage the container.

    I have dropped them on the floor a few times when I haven't been paying attention to getting them back into the tub. Luckily they are fairly small and not that heavy so they haven't caused any damage to my floor tiles. They do roll around and take a bit of catching though if they escape onto the floor or work surface.

    For the most part my ceramic beans have stayed clean, the greaseproof paper has seen to this. When they have needed a quick wash I've found that a bit of hot soapy water brings them back to their original pristine condition.
