Product Description

Colour: Cerise

A unique shape for today's modern cooking. The original Tarte Tatin recipe was the result of a mistake by the daughter of Jean Tatin, owner of L'Hotel Tatin in the Loire Valley. Instead of placing the apples inside a pastry shell, they were put in the dish first with the pastry on top. The tart had to be turned upside down before serving and the diners loved it!!! Now a modern classic!

About Le Creuset Cast Iron Cookware
Le Creuset cast iron cookware is in a class of it’s own. Every piece is individually crafted and passes through more than thirty pairs of craftsmens’ hands. Made at the famous Le Creuset foundry in Fresnoy-Le-Grand, Northern France and favoured by restaurateurs and celebrity chefs each cast iron pot comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Highest Quality Vitreous Enamel
All Le Creuset cast iron products are coated with the highest quality vitreous enamel. The hygienic impermeable enamelled surface means Le Creuset can be used for marinating food prior to cooking or for food storage after cooking.

Heat Sources
Le Creuset enamelled cast iron cookware can be used on the stovetop, in the oven and under the grill. Le Creuset is suitable for use on all heat sources including electric, gas, ceramic, halogen top and induction.

Heat Distribution and Retention
Cast Iron is a superior conductor of heat. The even thickness of the base, walls and lid means that heat distribution is even and energy efficient. Furthermore, the heat retention properties of the pieces are second to none, ensuring that the pot stays hot for second helpings.

Energy Efficient
Le Creuset cast iron is an efficient material in absorbing and distributing heat, therefore, there is no need to use high heat. Best cooking results are obtained on low to medium settings; using Le Creuset on high settings may result in enamel chipping.

Table Use
Le Creuset is stylish enough to be taken straight from the kitchen to the table where its wide choice of colour coordinate with almost any home décor.

TATIN dish in CAST IRON from Le Creuset.

COLOUR : CERISE

However, this dish is also ideal for:
.....quiche
.... a tart
......a chunky omelette
....simply baked fruit or roasted vegetables.
A cookery colleague turns out a perfect upside down pineapple cake, on a regular basis.

Approximate size, based on my own dish:

* External base diameter : 20 cm, gently tapering out to 24.5 cm at the top
* Overall width including the low-set handles : 30 cm
* Depth : 4.5 cm

Suitable for all heat sources.
Easy to clean/dishwasher safe.
Sturdily boxed.
Colour - CERISE
Le Creuset embossed on one handle.

The accompanying booklet also contains some interesting history about the alleged origins of the 'Tarte Tatin' recipe:

...'Dating back to the late 19th Century, this recipe was allegedly invented as the result of a 'mistake' by Ms Stephanie Tatin - a mistake which was to become a piece of culinary history and has continued to enjoy growing popularity ever since......'

The whole story appears in this chunky booklet, in 6 languages (Svenska, Espanol, Nederlands, Deutsch, English and Français), which also includes use/care instructions, along with recipes for:

* Apple Tarte Tatin
* Banana Butterscotch Tatin
* Chocolate Pear Dessert with Chocolate Ganache Sauce
* Mediterranean Vegetable Tatin
* Salmon and Leek Quiche

to get you started.

Doubles up as a stunning fruit bowl, when not in use for cooking on or off the cooker!

RRP averages £75, if you can find one - or try Le Creuset UK direct (£84 at the time of writing).

...and not just for the old favourite apple version!

MATERIAL : CAST IRON
COLOUR : VOLCANIC

This Tarte Tatin Dish is certainly excellent at its 'traditional' job, but it is also equally successful as a base for cooking a whole range of tempting sweets, puddings and savoury dishes in.

I have just successfully tried out a super new recipe for:

'Chocolate and Raspberry Cake'

a seriously rich cake with a hidden tang, which can be served warm as a dessert with hot raspberry sauce or cold as a cake.

However, this dish is also ideal for
.....quiche
....a tart
......a chunky Spanish tortilla/omelette
.....roasted vegetables.....the list is endless!

Approximate size, based on my own dishes:

* External base diameter : 20 cm, gently tapering out to 24.5 cm at the top
* Overall width including the low-set handles : 30 cm
* Depth : 4.5 cm

And because the handles are set lower than the dish, it is easy to place the serving plate on top and flip the contents over, without loss, when required!
