DVD Description
The court of Louis XIV, a story of intrigue, assassination and revenge. The first and most famous version of Paul Fevals classic swashbuckling novel. Starring Jean Marais (La Belle Et Le Bete, LAigle A Deux Tetes, Orphee, Les Miserables) and Bourvil (Le Cercle Rouge, The Stud, The Longest Day, La Traversee De Paris) directed with flair by Andre Hunnabelle (Fantomas, Captain Blood). A film with much swash and buckle, sword fights and subterfuge all mixed into a fabulous, colourful romp. Lagardere's comic companion Passepoil (Bourvil) adds a light touch to the proceedings. But when the nobleman is vilely murdered by a villainous courtier, Lagardere is duty-bound to raise the victim's little daughter as though she were his own. Time goes by, though not enough to erase the memory of the murder from the adventurer's mind. He decides to disguise himself as a hunchback in order to be accepted into the faction that had the nobleman killed, and from the inside as it were, plots his revenge. ...Le Bossu (1960) ( La Spada degli Orléans ) ( The Hunchback of Paris )
