More About the Author

When Simon bought a small vegetarian restaurant, he had no idea how to cook. Armed with two cookbooks and heaps of enthusiasm, he and a friend created the best vegetarian restaurant in Manchester, famous for its unusual food and lovely atmosphere. A confirmed meat eater, Simon had to rethink his cooking and has created vegetarian recipes to please even the most dedicated carnivore.

Simon imaginatively combines ingredients to create a unique cooking style that he describes as 'magpie cuisine'. These simple, quick recipes are big on taste and creativity. Indulge in a steaming bowl of Hot & Sour Soup, enjoy a comforting Peppered Mushroom and Stilton Pie, or warm up with a tasty Vegetable Curry. Then finish your meal with a delicious Honey, Ricotta and Pistachio Cheesecake or Banoffee Pie.

Breaking the mould of vegetarian cookery, Simon Rimmer always presents a selection of irresistible dishes that will satisfy all who eat them, vegetarian and carnivores alike.

Review

This book is ideal for anyone who's lazed in front of BBC2's Something for the Weekend. wishing they had the energy to jot down brunch ideas from the programme, but never quite doing so. The duo have done the work for you. The recipes are easy to follow, so it won't take too much effort to whip up a hot stack of American pancakes and bacon. --WAITROSE FOOD ILLUSTRATED, February 2008

Nothing says Mother's Day quite like breakfast in bed. To help create a really special morning treat (blueberry pancakes or pomegranate granola anyone?)... Lazy Brunch, by the wonderful Simon Rimmer and his fellow Something for the Weekend presenter Tim Lovejoy. --DELICIOUS magazine, February 2008

Format: Paperback
Quadrille/2008/Paperback edition.
(To avoid duplication this book has been reprinted, in November 2009, as Something for the Weekend: 60 fabulous recipes for a Lazy Brunch)

From the inner sleeve:-

* 'In this the first book from the hugely successful Sunday morning BBC TV series, 'Something for the Weekend', co-hosts top chef Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy have selected 60 recipes from the show's most popular feature, 'Lazy Brunch'. Together they have produced the ultimate cookery book for late morning meals - when breakfast isn't quite enough, but it's too early for lunch'.......

And if you are lured by the 'American Pancakes with Bacon' sizzling in a skillet on the paperback front cover, this could be the recipe book of your dreams:-

* 'You can be a star in a U.S. drama making these. Rustle up the pancakes for your lady with the sun gently dappling through the kitchen window for full effect......you may want to think about teeth whitening, expensive haircuts and gym sessions to be on the safe side.'

Well it is certainly a different approach - once you get to grips with the humour, if new to this duo!

Opening the cover, one finds 144 quality pages split over 5 unusually named, themed chapters:-

1. Beers with the boys (page 10-35)
2. Treating your girlfriend (page 36-61)
3. Food to share (page 62-87)
4. The olds round for brunch (page 88-113)
5. Dishes to impress (page 114-138)

sandwiched between an introduction, and a 4-page index.

It is a bright and well laid out book, with all dishes photographed.

brilliant book. only one thing that i didnt like even though it turned out as their picture did. the calzone. it was too sloppy and wet inside it. other than that, i've made all of the other recipes in this book many times over. super for snacks, picnics, lunches, dinners even, party food gallore to be had in here! there'll be nothing you make that you wont like. truly super. am cross the other person gave it 3stars and said it was no good. i cook a LOT and this book IS very very good. excellent i'd say, great for anyone looking to build confidence in cooking or even pro's wanting failsafe good honest foods to impress. bloody brilliant! it must be, i've had it since it was released and used it about 24 times! :-)

There are so many recipes in here that you want to cook straight away, the difficulty is deciding on which one first. Its definitely not at all concerned with your health, but the recipes I have tried have been easy to follow and delivered tasty results. The huevos racheros is very good...

I was expecting menus from the television programme , simple, quick meals for busy people. Too many pastry recipes unfortunately. I prefer pasta dishes.
