was so pleasantly surprised to hear Regina Belle re-doing and refining some of well known standards and Broadway tunes.

The instrumentation and vocals are just splendid, and she always commands the best session men.

George Duke, Everette Harp,Christian McBride, Ray Fuller, Lenny Castro, the Perris and many other top-notch jazz musicians...all totally support Regina's unbelievable voice and styling on every cut.

Not a weak one in the bunch.

You touch me,you dazzle me,Regina, you have stolen my heart.

And " Why Do People Fall In Love" just has to be on anyone's list for best written, performed, and produced cuts.

Just sit-back and enjoy this astonishing , high-quality CD. You'll be glad that you did!

When I discovered this CD (surprisingly, it was not promoted at all on TV, radio, in musical magazines or internet sites, NOTHING - just 'word of mouth') I approached it gingerly, in exactly the same way as I did with Carly Simon's "Moonlight Serenade" album and with Rod Stewart's unfamous offerings. "Oh God!" I thought, "here we go again, this'll be a washout - same old stuff rehashed". But I was WRONG!
This is no meandering MOR (Middle of the Road) set as I had feared, but a CLASSIC and ESSENTIAL album of interpretations that will be loved, played and cherished by lovers of soul, jazz, standards and almost anyone with a tasteful bone in their body for generations to come.
These are much loved songs written by great composers like the Gershwins, the Isley Brothers, John Latouche/Jerome Moross, Bart Howard.. These songs have been recorded by classic quality artists such as Frank Sinatra,Tony Bennett,Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Bobby Daring, Sarah Vaughan and Barbra Streisand, among others.
Along comes Regina Belle, who takes these famous songs and remoulds them into an intoxicating blend of quality music, backed up by full orchestration. Regina gives us a performance of a LIFETIME.
Here, in my opinion, we are in a higher plane, in a far superior league with Regina in an emotional, wistful, teasing and creative mood. This is in marked contrast to the crass, commercial and unsophisticated acts which rule the charts nowadays....
I clicked on the sound samples on Amazon and headed for the tracks that I was unfamiliar with. Let's just say that 10 seconds into the title track and tears had welled up and caught a lump in my throat.

Through the years Regina Belle has been continuing to perfect her songcraft.
She first burst onto the scene with 'So many tears' in 1987 and 'Make it like it was' and earned a Grammy for her 1993 duet with Peabo Bryson,'A whole new world ', from the Disney film 'Alladin'.
This new album, recorded in Los Angeles with veteran producer and legendary pianist/keyboardist George Duke,is a thrilling, soul satisfying collection of beloved rhythmm and blues staples, swinging jazz standards, moody torch songs and golden classics : all delivered in Regina's sultry, precise phrasing with memorable, contemporary arrangements.
I love it !

This record is as good as could be hoped for.
Regina Belle is in sparkling form, the songs are gorgeous, the production is flawless, the concept is original, diverse and adventurous.
It is maybe the most complex and difficult CD ( in the making ) of her whole recording career...but certainly it is the most rewarding. It is simply a marvel !
Funk,Gospel,Jazz and Soul at their best.
I think ( and in that I am supported by terrific reviews from both sides of the Atlantic ) that it is one of the best records of 2004.

When it comes to the talents/vocals of Ms. Regina one can say that they truly transcend anything that you could pen on paper. If you are not familiar with the talents of this truly superlative artist you are missing a rare treat. This cd is awesome and breathtaking. To understand this artist you have to have been there for her humble beginnings. Stepping on the scene with "All by myself" I knew that Ms. Regina was one who could do it all.
I still enjoy hearing "Stay with Me", "Please be Mine", "After the Love Has Lost its Shine" and "Intimate Relations", all from the "All by Myself" All By Myself / Stay With Me.
Since that day Regina has move full steam ahead. She has never settled in one genre and is well able to pull off Pop, soundtracks, R&B, funk, Hip/Hop, Urban and all the in-between.
On "Lazy Afternoon" from the moment the diva opens her mouth you are virtually transported to a time and a place of tranquility. Immediately you ache for that quiet place.
#1 "Lazy Afternoon" - this track opens the door to what Ms Regina has in store. The vocals are pure and strong, accompanied by wonderful musicians and background vocals. She seems to growl as she conveys a message to the "Fly me to the Moon" - from what I remember this cut has been covered by some of the greatest including Tony Bennett, Bobby Womack and the late great Nat King Cole. But here Ms Regina incorporates her raw skills and sultry vocals to make this an ageless classic. The piano is beautiful as if it is nipping at her hills for more. The horn arrangement and the sax solo by Everette Harp are beautifully crafted.
