Barbra - Anything but lazy, 5 Feb 2004
By A Customer
"My Father's Song" is a really nice song, I wasn't sure when it first started how I felt but as it went on the words drew me in because it such a great song about a father."By the Way" is not a song that I particularly liked the first time I heard it...over the years it grew on me and is now one of my favorites. "Shake me Wake me!!!" Funky disco feel..I like it. "I Never Had it so Good": when it started I thought I had written this song!!! LOL But I really like this one. The melody is so simple and I find I hum it after I have walked away from the CD. Her vocals are sublime, I would love to sing this track. "Letters That Cross in the Mail": I loved the instrumentals on this song. When I think of writing music myself I heard those chords in my head..I felt very at home with this song. "You and I": How can anything that Stevie Wonder has touched not be anything but superb. This would make a great song to sing at my wedding. The passion in which she sings this just blows me away...this IS my favorite song on the track. I am going to see if I can get the music to this one.Doesn't it all come down to just you and I...... "Moanin' Low": Very theatrical. I felt like I was sitting in that smoky nightclub, drinking my "Manhattan" and soaking in the sounds. I loved the horns! I love the big band era and this is right up my ally. I'd have a ball singing this one. "A Child is Born": you may find this odd but this was not one of my favorites. Something just didn't touch me. As a parent you would think it would and I did think the lyrics were wonderful but the arrangement I did not like. "Widescreen": another one of my favorites. I love the arrangement, love the lyrics and I think Barbra certainly felt this song. Definite 70's feel and yet I can see it sung today. Great album. If you haven't listened to it in a while..now is the time to reacquaint yourself with the magic that we call "BARBRA"!!
