well written introduction to the picaresc novel Lazarillo 10 May 2000

I had to write an essay about Lazarillo de Tormes and found it quite difficult to get more information about the novel. This critical guide offers good background information about the author, society and especially church in the 16th century and medieval literary tradition. Although Deyermond sometimes risks credibility with some speculations and exaggerates his interpretation it's a pity there are no re-prints.
