At first sight this book seems to be bursting with interesting stitching projects. If you are a novice to stitching you might need to spend a couple of hundred pounds buying the right tools and materials to tackle most of them. Ruth Rae uses specially etched stamps; paints, dyes and inks; shaped punches; tapestry & beading needles; quilting threads; quilting machine needles; round nose pliers; wire of various gauges in brass, copper, steel; sheet metal; plexiglass; heat gun; electric drill; and a sewing machine.
The projects are exciting and very different to other textile art books. They range from simple gift cards using scraps of fabric, to a wall hanging that only an experienced quilter would tackle as it incorporates wood, beads, sheet metal, the dyeing of cloth and a metal punch. It is a beautifully illustrated book showing off the artist's talent, and I love leafing through it for ideas. It is a book for the experienced stitcher, crafter or textile artist.
