Book Description

31 May 2012 Burren Mysteries

"Harrison, like Peter Tremayne in his Sister Fidelma series, provides a superior brand of historical mystery" Booklist

February, 1512. Mara, Brehon of the Burren, judge and lawgiver, has been invited to the magnificent city state of Galway, which is ruled by English laws and a royal charter originally granted by Richard III. Mara wonders whether she can use her legal knowledge to save the life of a man from the Burren who has been caught stealing a meat pie, but events soon take an even more dramatic turn when the mayor's son is charged with a heinous crime. Sure there is more to the case than meets the eye, Mara investigates . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Medieval Galway 27 July 2012

Another gripping read about Mara and her students but this time set in the city of Galway. It was very interesting to read about how different Galway was from the Burren, even though it is such a short distance away. Having visited Galway many times, it was fascinating reading for me. Can't wait for the next book!

I love these tales of justice from Ireland - before Elglish law prevaled - fast moving with well drawn charactors who quickly become fast friends to the reader.
Our Lady Judge is a strong but warm charactor with a deep insight into teh human failings of those she is called to judge. I strongly reccomend these books

always a good read, love the drama, the young people involved and the basic Irishness of the whole book. I do occasionally - and in this book it happened again - get slightly tired of the opposition Mara receives. But the history is brilliant - I love the explanation of what things are worth, and the writing just carries me along. Wonderful stories and visiting the Burren was, for me, a magical experience.
