So much has been written about "Lawrence of Arabia" that it is hard to know what is fact and what is fiction. This book attempts to cut through much of the hyperbole and place the man and his deeds in context. In addition, it contains many photographs that although may have been published previously, have not been widely seen.

If the book has a failing it is more accentuated towards a photographic record than a written one. This may due to the fact that the author has previously published a biography of T. E. Lawrence and felt that going over the same facts in detail was not warranted. However, it does place a lot more emphasis on what happened to Lawrence after Arabia and is well worth getting just for that.

In all it is a worthy addition to the library of anyone interested in knowing more about T. E. Lawrence than just the outline of his deeds in the desert with the Arab Revolt.

A classy book, full of excellent images from Lawrences life, and eminently readable as all Malcolm Brown's books are. There may be more than 90 biographies about Lawrence; but this one is a must have for your collection, as Malcolm reviews the facts clearly, succinctly and with an objective rather than a biased eye.
