Product Description

Sequel to 'The Lawnmower Man'. The hapless Jobe (Patrick Bergin, inheriting the role from Jeff Fahey) returns from the first film and convinces his doctor to hook him back up to the computer system that gave him a virtual alter ego. The doctor wants Jobe to create a mammoth computer city/system in cyberspace thus bringing him many riches. However, Jobe has plans of his own and wants the use of a special chip to decipher an encryption code which will allow him to control the world from inside cyberspace.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible 14 Feb 2009
This is a truly terrible excuse for a movie. The first "Lawnmower Man" was an enjoyable piece of B-movie nonsense that played with "virtual reality" in much the same way its 50s and 60s ancestors misrepresented radiation. This lame sequel suffers the following flaws:

Poor continuity with its predecessor despite claiming to be a direct sequel.
The surviving characters from the first film are played by different actors. This is always a risk and in this case I could not accept that Frewer was supposed to be the guy from the first film.
Cute kids and their cute dog are featured prominently.
An incoherent and illogical plot.
Special effects that looked dated even when this film came out.

I realised it was rubbish about a minute in and regret sitting through the whole thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best films of the 90's 25 Sep 2007
Lawnmower Man 2 follows on from the culture changing Lawnmower Man, my favourite film of all time. The sequel doesn't dissappoint and is gripping from start to finish. It's a film that has it all, laughter, tears, happiness, love and that most important ingredient of all, hamburgers.
The hamburgers make a great showing with consumate professionalism and timing.
And here is an interesting fact, the first person cast in this sequel is an extra in the third episode of the first series of "Rome" - the only good one in the series...

This second episode wants to be the end, I mean termination, of the first episode, and both illustrate the fear that was present at the end of the first episode and the possibility to get rid of the danger that virtual reality represents now, because now there is no potential, just danger. In a few years the dominant opinion on virtual reality had changed completely to become a vision of utter destruction for humanity in the hands of all kinds of ambitious social climbers and mentally deranged people. But here the interest is to see where the protection comes from : scientists and engineers, some of them at least, and young people who are otherwise engaged in all kinds of marginal escapistic delinquent activities. The danger is both mental and material. Mental because a new prophet is going to be born thanks to this virtual reality and material because this prophet is going to lead everyone into annihilation. The touching note comes from a dog who is so brilliant that he obeys his master on a TV screen and he can put a CD or CD-Rom in the correct drive and activate it. Touching touchy touchstone, isn't it ?
