I really thought, and hoped, that this might be the book to get the Breeds back on track, but it wasn't. In fact, I think it sounded the death knell for me and LL books as autobuys.
I am TIRED of these Breed books having soooo much of the 'I am not your mate' thing - it's been covered in too many of these books, too many times, to now, for me, ad nauseum. Also, it's never a good sign, when a shadowy, secondary character elicits more interest from me than the male lead. Gideon appeared so many times, doing so many undercover things that he was the more mysterious, Alpha character. All Lawe seemed to do was growl that Diane was his mate, yet do nothing about it, making it sound like he was all mouth and no trousers. It kind of seemed at certain points that he did not want her, and yet, did not want his brother Rule to go after her. And I also got fed up with Rule tweaking Lawe's tail.
As for Diane, when did she become such a prominent, kick-a** Breeds enforcer/warrior type? Yes, I know she's (the very wet) Rachel's sister, and in anticipation of this book, there have been hints about her, but that she's suddenly so important and invincible and such a major player...didn't quite ring true.
I think that the Breeds have become tired and too same-same now that we are some 15+ books into the series, and frankly, I am now fed up forking out for them. I may continue to read LL Breeds tales if I can get them from my library, but I can't see myself buying them any more. They are not worth it.
