Synopsis

Unlike most police procedurals, Dick Wolf's seminal series takes the viewer from crime to conviction. As its title suggests, Law and Order pairs the perspectives of the police and prosecutors. The first half of the show devotes itself to the investigation of a crime in New York City, while the second half dives into the legal proceedings. Series five features Chris Noth in his final series as Detective Mike Logan, with seasoned veteran Jerry Orbach playing the wry Lenny Briscoe. This season also marks Sam Waterston's first as Jack McCoy, one of the most popular characters on the series. Claire Kincaid (Jill Hennessy) joins McCoy in the district attorney's office. The fifth series of the Emmy-winning series features an impressive roster of guest stars, including Laura Linney and Edward Herrmann. Future Sopranos regulars Edie Falco, Aida Turturro, and Dominic Chianese also make appearances.

I am a native English speaker, yet I too use English subtitles. They allow me to view with the volume way down so as not to wake the kiddo and, I've got to admit, keep up with the legalese. Does Amazon have an Ombudsman? If so, please step in and contact the manufacturers!

Have to give it four stars, though. The Hennessy - Waterston combination is one of the best legal teams on TV! Hated to see Hennessy go.

I'm sorry everyone is upset about lack of English subtitles and I can understand your frustration, but I feel obliged to say a few words about the actual episodes. I've just watched this and they are as good as any other series, all of which are excellent. I was gripped the whole time. If you like the other stuff you will like this. The best crime series ever. Bar none.

I'm pretty sure this season is as good as the previous ones. BUT.
As far as I know, my hearing is perfect. But English is not my first language, and I do feel hearing impaired, when watching films in English without subtitles. When it comes to some Afro-American talk, I am totally deaf. When season 4 came without subtitles, I thought, maybe it was a mistake. But no more subtitles in season 5, ditto in Special Victims Unit season 2. Well, that's the end of Law & Order for me. It seems, when something goes wrong, it goes wrong with the whole franchise, so I'm NOT buying SVU seasons 3 and 4, neither CI season 2. A PITY, to tell the truth. L&O seasons 1-3 and SVU and CI season 1 had subtitles, so what happened??? I mean, English subtitles would do perfectly, I'm not asking for Lithuanian ones!
Well, maybe I'm the only one Amazon.co.uk customer in the region 2 part of the world with this kind of problem, so it's my personal problem. But am I, really?
