This book will be very helpful for those who want to wrap their heads around law for journalists in practice. It may seem a little too professional and too concerned with the legal aspect, but it makes good connections with the practice of law through numerous real-case examples that help you understand how the laws are actually implemented in practice and how cases might be judged differently in the light of circumstances. It's very well-organised, clear, concise and easy to use. I find it more helpful than my actual course material which is based on McNae's Essential law for journalists.

As a training journalist taking my NCTJ news exams, this book is one to take over McNae as the main law book for journalists. It has the same depth of information but set out and written in a far more accesible way, plus all the cases you need are in here. I can't believe I struggled with my boredom for three years with McNae until I was told about this book. While I found McNae's very dry, this is much easier to read without scrimping on the detail and also has chapter summaries and a set of questions so you can review your knowledge.

So for anyone taking a journalism degree or sitting their preliminary certificates in newspaper journalism, suffer no longer.

It is great to have an up-to-date, extensive but easy to use law book that can sit beside my desk. There are increasing instances when I need to check the legal position of a story or clarify which facts I can publish. The use of the Law in Practice examples helps bring those laws to life and will hopefully help me avoid any slip-ups.
I reckon this book would be a sound investment for any editor or journalist.
