Format:VHS Tape
This is problaby the most wonderful gay love story that you can probably see in the history of filmaking.
Antonio Banderas is probably at his best, only to compare with his performance in Tie me up tie me down, also by Almodovar.
The rest of the cast is absolutely fantastic, but the one that surely will get into your heart will be without a doubt Carmen Maura who portraits the best transexual performance that I've ever seen.
The scene of the hot evening when she asks to be irrigated is probably one of the most memorable in Spanish cinema.

If I was asked a word to define Almodovar, I would say Obsession! He's obsessed! Mostly about good cinema, but also about life in a broader sense. Do you know when you have everything and you just don't pay any attention to it? That's this movie for you! You just know what you have lost the moment you've lost it! There's a lesson for you! Don't, EVER, bite the hands that feeds you! Do you know what I mean?! On a related subject, if you like this, see "ATAME", or "Tie me up, tie me down" in English. Maybe a bit softer, but just the same obsession. Or just anything he's ever done (except KIKA, wich is no good at all! Well, the clothes by Gaultier save the day.)

One of his best films, I think. A love triangle with all the quirks of human nature that you'd expect from an Almodovar film.
Everyone involved is brilliant in this. Eusebio Poncela plays Pablo Quintero, a talented writer/director. I think he is one of Spain`s greatest actors. He has such expressive eyes, he could act botoxed to the hilt. Antonio Banderas is amazing as the young, obsessive lover, and Carmen Maura is outstanding as Pablo's sister, who initially started out life as his brother. Yeah, I know, typical Almodovar fodder.
His characters always transgress the boundaries of the mundane, and the film features incest, priests (of course), drugs, amnesia, a car crash and murder, no less. And a very nice shower scene. Filled with quirky moments that make it delightful viewing.
