I remember loving this book in my own childhood and it is just as good two generations on, presumably printed as a facsimile. Many rhymes invite the reader to play with the baby (This little Pig went to Market; Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake; This is the Way the Ladies Ride, etc) while other rhymes will be less familiar and those like Peter Piper or Two Legs sat uon Three Legs, will seem very clever and great jokes to children of five and six.
I'd say it is a book for the very young if it werent for Harold Jones's illustrations, which make it a book for all ages. What a delightful artist! Harold Jones is the perfect antidote to too much Disneyfication of childhood. Buy and enjoy it whatever age you are or however august your bookshelves.
