5.0 out of 5 stars AWwwwwwwww. 13 Mar 2007

I'm not trying to be patronising here.....

This is a lovely series. I might be wrong but I think it used to go out on Sundays..... The characters are lovable, beautifully designed and animated (the Cosgrove Hall element is very noticable in that the animation reminds me of the stop motion Cosgrove Hall Wind in the Willows) and the stories just long enough to entertain without becoming dull.

The whole thing is a trifle whimsical for sci-fi but none the worse for that....

Dr Agon reminded me, design wise, of the wizard in the animation "Flight of Dragons" (overdue for DVD if you ask me) but this is a wonderful series.

Well worth buying, and vastly underrated on its initial broadcast....

Travel to another dimension where strange aliens and worlds are commonplace in this unusual Universe. Follow the adventures of Captain Thrice and the crew of the Paradox as they search for Lavender Castle. The crew are not going to have an easy time of it as they must keep out of the clutches of the evil Dr. Agon.

This series was created in 1998 by Gerry Anderson ("Thunderbirds," "Captain Scarlet," "Space: 1999") and is made up of 26 - 10 minute episodes. The production is a mixture of stop motion and computer generated animation and really adds to the entire look of the show. Fantasy artist Rodney Matthews designed the characters and worlds for this charming series creating an interesting universe of wonder and adventure. The stories are more childish than other Anderson series like "The New Captain Scarlet" and "Thunderbirds" but they are still entertaining. "Lavender Castle" seems to be more like Gerry Anderson's earlier works of "Supercar" and "Torchy the Battery Boy."

The DVD itself is well laid out with the majority of the episodes on disc one and the remaining episodes and extras, including a game, on disc two. The only negative I found was there is a three minute trailer for other products that starts when you put the disc in and there is no way to stop it.

Any Gerry Anderson fan should like this, in my opinion it is one of the most unique of his series. Kids of all ages will want to follow Captain Thrice and the crew of the Paradox on their quest to find the fabled Lavender Castle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute kids series and very creative! 4 May 2009

I loved this when I was younger, it was so creative and fun. I watched it again recently and found out there are many things that don't make sense in it (such as characters being able to breathe in space) so it must be taken as a childrens' fantasy series where anything is possible.
It's basically about the crew of a ship called the Paradox and they're looking for this magical place called Lavender Castle. However, so are the bad guys and in the end the good guys work more to keep the bad guys away from it than actually find it themselves. The characters are funny and likeable. My favourite was the engineer, Isambard.
I recommend it for anyone who enjoys fantasy. It's for kids but it also has elements that adults can relate to as well, plus it has hidden meanings that kids may not pick up on but adults can. It's great family entertainment!
