It was recently my wedding anniversary and my mother-in-law asked my husband and I to choose whatever we wanted. Having been eyeing up a coffee machine we opted for this one based on various reviews. When we received the coffee machine we were pleasantly surprised that it came with over 30 coffee pods included of various flavours. First impressions are that the machine is well-made, well designed and is a quality product. The instruction booklet is very clear. And Lavazza have a special offer now where if you send a copy of proof of purchase then they will send you a set of espresso and cappuccino cups, saucers, spoons and some more pods for free!

The machine was very easy to set-up and 'prime' and before long we were making our espressos. I have to say that some of the flavours make more watery espressos than others so at least since Saeco have included the free pods you can test for yourself which pods you like best.

The machine is easy to use and compares to the 'basic' machine, this premium one has the feature of being able to memorise the exact volume of coffee you want in your cup (up to 6oz).

Unlike some reviewers of the 'basic' machine, I have not had any issues with the warmth of the coffee. The trick is to follow the 'priming' instructions by letting hot water come out of the steam wand for around 10 seconds before brewing the coffee. This is particularly important if you haven't used the machine in a few days.

I have yet to use all of my free pods but I have checked the price of replacements and they are reasonably priced compared to, for example, Tassimo pods. You can buy replacement pods from Amazon, Tesco direct or straight from Lavazza all for around the same price.

If I could go back and choose my coffee machine again I would still make the same choice as generally the coffee tastes fantastic and satisfies my espresso craving, meaning I don't have to spend much money in coffee shops any longer.

Quite simply this is an excellent machine.
It is quick and easy to use as well as being very simple to maintain. The 'Which' report marks it down for having a limited choice of coffee and being reasonably slow. Both of these seem like harsh criticisms to me. Yes there are only 7 coffee types to choose from but each are excellent If you want variety then add syrups, creams, etc. Slow? 30 seconds for a nice cup of coffee; is that really slow?
Ultimately though it makes a delicious coffee, what more do you want?

Beautiful coffee, and if you base the price on pods alone the price of around 30c per cup is good value. Even the decaf tastes better than most cups of coffee you'd get in a café. I suppose this adds even more value as we've stopped buying coffee when we're out, knowing we'll get a nicer cup at home.

Unfortunately, the machines appear to be very poorly made. We are on our third machine now since our initial purchase 14 months ago, and this one is starting to act up too. The first one worked for about 2.5 months before the pump began to fail. Some days it would take over 5 minutes to fill an espresso cup, other days it would just dribble a bit before stopping and flashing its lights at us. Getting it replaced took over a month with the Irish distributor. The second machine seemed a lot better, it was quieter in operation anyway, and it lasted about 4 months. When it failed nothing would come out the nozzle but the dreg tray would fill up. I looked inside with a torch and saw part of a seal sticking out where it shouldn't. When I managed to get in touch with the distributor again (another couple of weeks waiting for calls and emails to be returned) he suggested I descale it, proving what I suspected about his expertise. This one was replaced with my current machine about 4 months ago but now this one is starting to behave like the first one.

If you get a cup of coffee out of every pod it's a great machine. When your machine starts chewing up your pods and giving you nothing, it gets expensive.

I love the coffee but couldn't recommend the machine.

Having previously had the traditional loose ground coffee type machines and all the fiddley cleaning up they require, this machine is a revelation in its simplicity of use and great quality of coffee produced. Coffee quality is consistently good and flavour can be varied by the blend of "pods" purchased - the sample set of available coffee pods was great for helping with choice - and the benefit over the Nespresso machines is that Waitrose supermarkets stock the pods!

The milk frother is also very good - especially so with the "Premium" model with its extra nozzle attachment, and for the first time we can now enjoy cappuccinos to a similar standard to those we used to get from Nero's or Starbucks

Do please buy the Premium model as it has extra benfits such as a memory on one of its buttons for the quantity of coffee dispensed, auto "off", temperature control and the nozzle for the milk wand.

Great kit - glad we bought one!
