LOTS & LOTS OF FUN!!,

This review is from: Laurel and Hardy - Dancing Masters [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Oh I SO enjoyed this film! Many people say that the later movies made by L & H are not as good/funny, and whilst okay; they may appear older and it's obvious they are becoming rather tired and do not have the energy they once had, but hey; don't be cruel to them - they did nothing to us but give us joy, (God Bless them) and people quickly forget; we aged far more in those days than we do today and are expecting too much; people did not live so long, and life was harder. (yes - even for wealthier people) Today, at their age, I guess they'd still have been going strong, but honestly; if you don't think this film is so funny, then there's either something wrong with you, or you're not a true fan of L & H and fully understand their comedy. I hadn't watched this for years, and I put it on the other evening to kill an hour I had to spare - and am I glad that I did! I could not breath with laughter at some of the scenes! I literally did get a pain in my side; like when Ollie rubs and squashes that balloon in Stan's face 'til it bursts! (Stan's expression LOL) When the chair leg lifts up when Stan's tapped on the knee - so Ollie suggests he sit and have Stan do the same to him - you guessed it; he gets a belt on the knee! LOL! I REALLY enjoyed this and wouldn't be put off watching any of their movies - whenever they were made - a real tonic! (and I think I've seen them all before anyway - but so what!) So lovely to think that L & H can still make us laugh so many years after they died... (so unfair - should be a law against dying at all when you've given so much fun to others...) LOVED IT! A MILLION Stars! Also stars a young Robert Mitchum, and Daphne Pollard who viewers will remember featured as Ollie's wife in several of the 'shorts'.

A pleasant hour with Stan and Ollie,

"The Dancing Masters" is one of Laurel & Hardy's better wartime comedies. Not much plot (boy inventor tries to get financing for his jungle-warfare weapon), and not much in the way of production values, but plenty of typical Laurel & Hardy foolishness. They operate a dancing school, crash a society mansion, wreck a ray gun, upset an auction, ride a runaway bus... and that's just part of it! Watch for Robert Mitchum in a featured role.

I've never really seen a good review of this film (well, apart from the other review here!) - however, having just watched 'Dancing Masters' i felt compelled to write something positive about it. Ok, its no 'Sons Of The Desert' or 'Our Relations', but its generally a decent film that fully sustained my interest for the whole 64 minutes. There were a few laugh out loud moments - Stan's appearance as an inventor, the boy's exploits on a runaway bus (if only Keanu Reeves had behaved like that in 'Speed'!!!!) amongst others and i feel it to be rather under-rated. One can only imagine how even better it could have been if Stan had been able to add some extra touches here and there - damn you Fox! Overall a worthwhile film which must be seen before denouncement.
