Product Description

Laura needs to interview the hero of the moment to keep her new job with a women's magazine. She'd rather stick a fork in her eye. Twelve years have passed since her disastrous one night stand with Charlie and they've barely exchanged two civil words in that time. She calls him the Neanderthal and he calls her The Iron Maiden. If it wasn't for the fact his sister was Laura's best friend, she wouldn't have anything at all to do with him.

Charlie has come back from a stint in Afghanistan with a souvenir - nightmares. After one afternoon arguing with Laura, Charlie makes a wonderful discovery: she's so irritating, she scares away his dreams. So Charlie agrees to give her an interview - at a price. She has to accompany him on a two week cycling holiday in Holland, that way he might actually get the rest he needs. He takes particular delight in the plan because he knows that Laura hates exercise, loathes the outdoors and despises him. It feels good to have the upper hand for a change.

Laura needs an interview. Charlie needs sleep. And they both need to grow up and get over the past. But not before Laura cycles into a canal, sets fire to a tent and posts nude pictures of Charlie on the internet - all with the hope of getting her story.

More About the Author

I was born in Scotland and now I live in New Zealand. I've been here almost ten years and I absolutely love it! I'm married to a lovely Dutch man who tolerates the fact I make fun of him on my facebook page. I have two adorable little girls and several mad animals that eat up a lot of my time during the day. This means I do all my writing in the dark when everyone is asleep. I put on some music and entertain myself with stories of people falling in love. It's such fun to watch the characters screw up from the comfort of my wee office! I'm a trained artist, an ex-teacher and travel junkie. But most of all - I LOVE to talk to people! So if you want to get in touch, that would be great. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Laura's Big Break 3 Nov. 2012
By Joo
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a chick lit book. The premise of the story is that Laura wants an interview with Charlie (who is also her best friend's brother). He doesn't want to give an interview as he finds Laura annoying, but agrees to it if Laura joins him on a week long bike tour of Amsterdam.

As chick lits go, this is a competent story. It follows all the rules, with a bit of comedy in there. It was slow in parts, but I did enjoy the last the part of the book. It was the usual boy hates girl, girl hates boy, boy and girl sped time together, boy and girl get to like each other. It was well written, I liked their antagonism and Laura's mishaps and I though it a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable read 5 Dec. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very good quick light hearted chick lit "will they, won't they" romance that you can easily get through in an evening. I really liked the character of Laura and the way that she was a walking disaster area and her mishaps really made me laugh. It is very easy to read, you don't have to think too hard about it - there are no real surprises and you will be able to guess the ending, or at least hope for the right ending, but sometimes that's all you want in a story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Light, Silly: Chick Lit at its Best 24 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An ideal example of chic lit. This is a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream for the soul.

The story drew me in and had a satisfying ending. Well worth a read. The right book for when life sucks and you need to lose yourself some where comforting !

It is defiantly silly. A relaxing bath read.

5.0 out of 5 stars She brings the crazy 8 July 2013

★★★★★Laura's Big Break by Janet Elizabeth Henderson

I was given this R2R in exchange for my honest opinion.

So after reading The Davina Code and Lingerie Wars, I wanted more from this author. So when I got a hold of Laura's Big Break I was thrilled. And I was not disappointed.

Laura is an aspiring journalist, stuck writing for a teen magazine. When she get's her big break, a position at a woman's magazine. The only problem, she must get an interview with the moron, neanderthal, screw up, Mr. Scared of Commitment, her first, her best friends brother, the cherry popper. Is the job really worth it?

Charlie, Doctor Hottie, is the complete opposite of Laura. He is wild, carefree, spontaneous, living his life to the fullest, looking for the next adventure. He has come back a war hero, has gone viral, and is scared of a 5'2 firecracker. She is not afraid to tell him what she thinks, how he needs to be stable, to grow up, and flat out intimidates him.

But together they are not oil and vinegar, no they are worse, electricity and water, and someone is getting hurt. So when his evil little plan to keep her away fails, he's stuck bicycling across Holland with her. So let the crazy begin.

And in true Ms. Henderson fashion, so creates hysterics, between the wacky characters and situations. The characters are never perfect, which I love. What fun would a character be if nothing ever went wrong. And believe me, they get the fair share of trouble.

This was a great, easy read, that keep me laughing throughout. A few spots left me shaking my head at all the crazy.

Thanks to the author for sharing the looniest bike ride ever. I had a blast.
