Laura was born in 1976 and shied away from sport of any sort until her mid twenties when she discovered how fun it was to ride uphill on a bicycle. Since then she's been riding up hills all over the world and has been paid to do so by both Rough Guides and Trailblazer Publications. From 2003 to 2006 Laura spent most of her time in the Himalaya where she researched, mapped and wrote Himalaya By Bike, which was shortlisted for the book prize at the Banff Mountain Festival. Laura is also a Rough Guide contributor and runs a bicycle tour company called Greenrock Ltd with her partner Joe Mearns.
Laura also loves Arctic Norway where she has ice biked in mid-winter around Tromso and the Lyngen Alps with Joe, and cycled from Tromso to the Lofoten Islands in a weekend with the help of the midnight sun.
