5.0 out of 5 stars peaceful listening 15 July 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am absolutely thrilled with this album - every track is superb and a must for all classical/latin guitar listeners. Not too happy with the UK supplier as once dispatched it took another 10 days to be delivered - would be better if it could be supplied by Amazon direct as their dispatch and delivery are superb!. Saying all that I'm delighted I have it added to my collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult second album syndrome 6 July 2012
By Fran
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's interesting to see that the fabled "Difficult Second Album Syndrome" doesn't only exist in the pop and rock world. As with another person reviewing this album, I also bought the first CD and went to see him live and so I was really looking forward to the release of Latino. I can only say that it is indeed very disappointing. When you consider the range of music available to choose from where Latin American guitar is concerned, the selection on offer here is a bit of a let down. With all the compositions written by Barrios, did we really need two very similar sounding tremolo pieces? Too many Tangos, I know they are quintessentially South American but even so...and the arrangement of La Cumparsita is so tuneless, it almost makes for painful listening. At best most of the album is pedestrian and, when the guitar is smothered by completely unnecessary strings, at worst it becomes dull, Easy Listening elevator music (Piazzolla's Libertango can sound stunning when played by solo guitar but here it is washed away by a sea of strings). So much for all the guff about Passion, emotion and intensity. The real shame is that I like Milos, I liked his first album, in concert he has a great personality that comes across in his playing and he undoubtedly has talent...but none of those things are on show here. I only hope that for his next album he ditches the awful strings and gets some fire in his soul about the pieces he is performing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evocative 19 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A wonderfully evocative album accentuating Milos' expressive playing. No 'playing by numbers' here. A worthy successor to Mediterraneo.

Milos continues his journey to bring the classical guitar to a wider audience, hopefully inspiring a new generation of youngsters.

5.0 out of 5 stars milos-brilliant 21 July 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I heard about him on classic fm, and I have the first CD, which has a wonderful selection of guitar classics. This CD - Latino - is fantastic. The Spanish tunes he plays make you want to get up and dance the Rhumba/Samba/Paso Doble/Tango. He is such a talented player, with a really fluent style.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening 6 July 2012
Format:Audio CD

Although this music is beautifully played, it's disappointing that Milos has chosen to go down the 'easy listening' route, especially as there's a vast repertoire for the instrument. I still find many people who struggle to accept the guitar as a serious classical instrument and a 'crossover' album is not going to help. For the real thing I recommend the 'Guitar Collection' series from Naxos.

5.0 out of 5 stars South American warmth of sound and colour 30 Jun 2012
By Angela
Format:Audio CD
Young Artist of the Year at last year's Gramophone Classical Music Awards and cover star of Gramophone June 2012, Milos brings us a second disc 'Latino' with a South American repertoire to complement the first which had a Mediterranean one. The guitar is accompanied by a studio orchestra on Libertango, Por una cabeza ('Scent of a Woman' Tango), Quizas,Quizas,Quizas ('Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps' Tango) and Oblivion (Piazzolla Tango).

As a big fan of Latin music I am delighted with this new CD. The CD itself is a thing of beauty with wonderful evocative photographs and interesting notes about the compositions and treatment. Milos describes the music's directness "Latin American guitar music is perhaps even more uninhibited than Spanish". There is an exception to the Latin American origin and that is the tango by French-Tunisian guitarist and composer Roland Dyens 'Tango en saki'. Milos explains that "It is a very cool piece, and I have been playing it for many years as an encore in recitals. For me it epitomises joy". Milos has described his Australian Smallman guitar as being like a Ferrari, the sound is so rich, different from the traditional Spanish Torres-model guitar. Having now met the charming Milos at a post recital signing, I am more than ever a fan of 'my young guitar hero'. This CD has added warmth and joy to some chilly summer days.

It is suggested, in the Gramophone article, that Milos' next project might be Baroque, one of his biggest loves, "Bach is everything you can hope for" so we will have to wait and see. The Bach he played in concert we attended was so beautiful that I am hoping this will be one of his next projects. He also hinted at working with composers on new concertos.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment 5 July 2012
Format:Audio CD
Having bought his first cd and seeing him live i was really disappointed with this latest offering.

A poor selection of so-so music, drowned by a non-sympathetic backing orchestra makes for an uninspiring cd.i can only hope that with his next cd he goes back to what he does best and does NOT try to be commercial.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely playing but not as "Latin" as expected
I had expected this to be more "Latin" music as per the heading. Beautifully played by Milos though, so enjoyed it anyway.
