I am home educating my son, now eleven, and as he is going to boarding school in the autumn, we have been studying Latin. I had initially bought So You Really Want to Learn Latin, and we were working our way through the first book, when I decided he needed extra exercises for practise, so bought this book. It is absolutely excellent and just what he needed. With the knowledge he already had, it has proved both easy enough to bolster his confidence, and yet also challenging enough to make him think about what he is writing.
I did Latin to O level many years ago, but got a miserable grade 9 (lowest of the low) and hated it. NOW, however, with these two books, I am absolutely loving it and looking forward to moving him on to the more challenging book two. I must admit, most of this book I am finding very easy (not finished it yet though) but it is perfect for an eleven year old.
I am most impressed with its thoroughness and repetition until you know it. Just what children need. I would advise anyone of any age considering learning Latin to buy this. I don't need the answer book (yet!) but maybe it would be a good idea if you have never done Latin before. I am almost tempted to try a Latin GCSE myself! I wish I had been taught from books like this one when I was at school.
