Format:Audio CD
I saw these guys perform this at the 2003 Marlborough Jazz Festival and had to buy a copy of the CD there and then.
Whenever I listen to it, it just reminds me of sitting outside on the grass in beautiful sun-shine with a pint of beer or two with the band playing in front of me... I think it's as much the sound and the tunes rather than it just bringing back the memory of a great day out.
All the tunes are great, but also the actual sound of the instruments are lovely, making it sound like the guys are almost playing in front of you. The bass has such a lovely sound throughout, plus the husky tones of the baritone sax played by George Haslem. It just all sounds so in front of you.
Picking favourite tunes from this album is difficult, because they're all good, but Matusalem is one of my favourite tunes, written by the guitar player Mads Kjølby Olesen, also Nowhere to Go by Steve Waterman just has a great tone to it and the first track Mamblues is fantastic.
This album is a must for anyone who likes this style of jazz... it's just so cool and one of those albums which you want to have playing a fairly decent volume in the garden while you sit in the sun drinking a mochito or something.
