The best 'latin' disco album ever.,
By
This review is from: Latin Disco (Audio CD)
This is an essential addition for your collection. I make sure everytime I dj in London, at least two or three tracks get played. A massive, massive recommendation. The cover version of Lady Mamalade is especially good. I always get asked which album it's from. I should buy shares in the record company.Don't follow the trend of buying the obvious disco tracks of the 70s. 'Latin Disco' has quality and serious tunes. Big, orchestrated and soulful, oh, and damn funky too. I have not got bored yet, and it's been nearly a year and a half since I first bought it.

The Authentic Sound of Egypt,
This review is from: Cairo Road (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD for those who appreciate Egyptian music. It a collection of artists including early recordings of Oum Kalthoum and other notable singers. An excellent CD I thoroughly recommend it.

beginning the journey into arabic music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cairo Road (Audio CD)
This is the best single cd introduction to arabic music I have come across- there is a good variety of artists and styles of songs, through six decades of music. Also good is the background info on each artist (though occasionally misleading, such as the implication that the french feel of Soumaya Baalbaki's interpretation of 'Sahirto' was lacking in Abdel Wahhab's original.) Still- there is enough here to get any interested listener going, and plenty of leads to follow up for anyone who wants to get to know the artists and their music better. Plus- it sounds good! However, a word of warning to total newcomers to arabic music- they have missed out Fairuz! Probably for understandable copyright reasons, but she's an amazing musical phenomenon, with classic oldies as well as modern jazzy stuff. Make sure you listen to one of the collections published by 'Voix de l'orient' soon to help you along in your journey.
