Was looking forward to listening to this album - what a let down. Although it has all the good songs and singers from top musicals, the recording quality is very very poor. The songs all sound flat and boring. I have heard better quality on free CD's from newspapers. Don't buy this - a waste of money.

I bought this recently (not from Amazon) as I do like my musicals! However, I have a niggling feeling that there's something just not quite right with this compilation.
All the big numbers you would expect are there, as well as a few you wouldn't. However, as far as my ears can tell, these are studio recordings of the songs - not live renditions. And there is the rub.
There's something electric that comes from the stage when you hear these songs live - more passion, more volume - the performers are doing just that - performing for the audience. Here they are simply reciting the songs within the confines of a studio. The passion just isn't there, the hairs don't stand up on the back of your neck.
I'm quite happy with the song choices, but I miss the theatre aura that you get with live recordings.

It is a really good compilation and my Mum and Dad were delighted with this as part of their Christmas gifts.

Fab music
This is a great CD for musical lovers. Some songs are from the stage version but still pretty good.
