Spacey electro and disco conneisseur Lindstrøm shows his more quiet side with a downtempo, ecclectic vocal showing through the decades. He brings together some obscure vocalists, both old and new, along with a some familiar chords, such as Carly Simon, Dusty Springfield, and Sly and the Family Stone. There are a few spots in the mix where the tempo picks up, but it's mostly about subtle musical twists in genre, and drawn out, soulful turns on the mic. I like the fact there's almost an equal share between male and female vocals. There's also an excellent spoken word track by recent newcomer, Farah, which fits deep into the mix perfectly, with it's lush, building italo disco soundscape backing her. It's also found on the superb, new, italo disco and synth pop compilation, After Dark.

It definitely took me until about the 3rd listen to really warm up to some of the tracks. After that, I find it sets a very enjoyable background mood, full of interesting sounds and songs I would never have listened to otherwise. The LateNightTales, Back To Mine, and DJ-Kicks series are all about introduction to new, lost gems in the music world, and I'm definitely entertained by what Lindstrøm has brough to the table in this mix. It's a fine flowing mix, with very interesting stuff to kick back to and enjoy.

Masterful Mix 14 July 2007
Format:Audio CD
This is, for me , the best of the Late Night Tales compilations. From the fabulous Fern Kinney track to Farah's wonderful 'Law Of Life', it just works supremely well and is incredibly well mixed by the masterful Norwegian Lindstrom. The highlight has to be his own version of the Vangelis song 'Let It Happen' with Solale. It is just stunning. Anyone partial to electronica with a twist should buy this album. Five Stars and worth every one of them, trust me!

I'm a fan of Lindstrøm's music - his album 'Where You Go I Go Too' is epic. His only track here is a cover (Moroder naturally).

The overall mix good with an interesting mix. I'd suggest buying it just to own Carly Simon's 'Why" but it's more than that. There are no major surprises overall but it's worth the money.

As it's 4 stars, I'd say if you have the Carly Simon track then you should buy his album mentioned above as this isn't as eclectic as other albums in the series or in the DJ Kicks series.
