I have long been an admirer of Rosemary Clooney ..... collected her albums and CD's.........saw her in concert once......knew something of her life from the TV movie from the 80's.....but this book is the definitive biography. Each year of her life is told in immense detail.......her loves, her faults, her passion for her music.
What makes this special for music enthusiasts is the attention paid to her recording work, stories and anecdotes from her recording sessions. At the end of each chapter I had to put the book down and play the songs mentioned in the chapter. This book really makes her contribution to the music world come alive. In future when listening to a track I now know something of the background to the recording, as a music collector this makes for extra listening pleasure.
The last third if the book is the most comprehensive catalogue of her recordings, TV and public appearances. To conclude the book there is a year by year account of her life.......absolutely fascinating.
Congratulations to the two authors for once again providing the public with a superb testament to popular music. The time and energy spent in their research is outstanding.
I spent a day reading this book and enjoyed every moment of that time.....a book I will be returning too many many times.

This book is a wonderful addition to the autobiographies and adds so much more. I like the information format and the information on recording sessions etc. it is also fascinating to see well compiled lists of recordings;film & television appearances etc. I think what is key is the amount of work Rosemary Clooney undertook from the 1970s onwards. I certainly felt that I was reading about an important and influential performer. The book is a good size and nicely printed and feels like a quality publication.

A well researched book. The authors have provided a narrative which adequately balances Clooney's professional and private life. Clooney herself published two "autobiographies" which were unsatisfactory because she dealt superficially with a traumatic life. This book redresses the balance.

THE go-to source for all things Rosie! 3 July 2013
By Greg Van Beek - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This book is, by far, the most comprehensive career guide ever published on the amazing Rosemary Clooney. You can literally follow her activities on a day to day basis as you turn the pages! Recording dates, film & TV appearances, concert appearances... it's all here, covered in depth. It's part biography, and part diary, all in one concise package. Outside of her own autobiographies, this definitive and highly recommended fresh look at the life and times of one of the greatest female vocalists of all time is the way to go.

Perfect Complement to Her Autobiographies 13 Aug 2013
By 987654321 - Published on Amazon.com

This book is a funny juxtaposition. Most celebrities write self-congratulatory autobiographies and leave it to others to write the real story in biographies. Ms. Clooney wrote her own personal life history (a sometimes harrowing tale), and left it to others to write about her shimmering accomplishments.

There are just enough surprises and new anecdotes here to satisfy even the most well-read Clooney follower. And it is so interesting to read someone delicately and respectfully dissect Ms. Clooney's chops at every point of her career.

This book needed to be written, and I am glad to have it in my musical library.

I appreciated the immense effort that went into the research in this book. I work at the Clooney House in Augusta, KY., and was amazed at all the information included. She was a wonderful lady - but not without some struggles....and everything was presented respectfully and objectively. I would encourage everyone interested in her life to not miss this!!!!

I have always enjoyed Rosemary Clooney's music and was fortunate to see her at a few of the venues mentioned in this book. The
book gives great insight into Ms. Clooney's vocal range over the years, timing and phrasing. It is interesting to learn of her personal trials and triumphs. Great read.

"Late Life Jazz" is a loving, candid, and informative book about the life and career of the great Rosemary Clooney. It is a very balanced portrait of the lady herself and an extremely well-researched account of her professional career and her artistry. Highly Recommended.
