Yes, it's just boring old white background paper, but it's still staple stuff for photographic studios and people like me who work on the hoof. A half-roll is ideal for carting around in the back of the car and whipping-out when you need it, and being super white you can make it every shade from bleached-out to almost black (depending on how much light you throw onto it). In the studio I always used Colorama (don't even know if it's still available!), but bought this by Lastolite instead this time. It's white, it's thick and it comes in a nice box. What more can I say? It came by return post too.
