Product Description

Product Description
While on holiday in Scotland, visiting a macabre tourist attraction, 'The Dungeons of Edinburgh', a young Russian tourist is murdered. As the police grapples with the fact that the cause of the young man's death was a massive loss of blood, the Watches are immediately aware that there is a renegade vampire on the loose. Anton - the hero of The Night Watch and The Day Watch - is detailed to this seemingly mundane investigation, but on arriving in Scotland begins to realise that there is much more to the story than a wildcat vampire and a single murder. Aided by Thomas, the head of Edinburgh's Night Watch, Anton investigates and ruminates, and becomes aware that a team of unlicensed Others are hunting for a fabled magical treasure, hidden in the sixth level of the Twilight by Merlin himself.

From the Inside Flap
The Last Watch, stunning sequel to the Night Watch Series, once again follows the fortunes of the Others. Indistinguishable from normal people but possessed of supernatural powers and capable of entering the Twilight, a shadowy world that exists in parallel to our own, each Other owes allegiance either to the Dark, or the Light...

3.0 out of 5 stars watch out, 3 Nov 2008
By Mr. Ashley Bradbury - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Last Watch (Paperback)
As an avid fan of the "watch" trilogy, I had preordered this book as soon as I was able, and it arrived yesterday. It is as good as the other three except for one tiny problem: There is a chapter missing from the book!

My advice would be to hold off on buying this book until the publishers have noticed their (or their printers') mistake and have rectified it, as the missing chapter seems quite important to the story development!

Updated on 2nd Jan 2009:
Finally got back another copy of the book from the publishers and, thankfully, it contained the missing chapter.
The missing chapter discusses the Anton and Edgar piece among other things (a whole 18 pages! worth)
It was well worth emailing the publishers with the problem as I got the new copy free, as well as a coupon for a large discount off other titles AND free P&P.

Now that I have read the book in full, I would change my star rating to 5, but amazon won't seem to let me :O)

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely addition to the series, 5 Jan 2009
By Seneska "Sen" (Edinburgh, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Watch (Paperback)
I adored the trilogy and I waited eagerly for the fourth installment. Luckily I didn't have the missing chapter problem. The story feels more action-filled the than the previous ones, but balanced it with a hefty plot that managed to tie up some loose ends. As an extra bonus it was set in the city I live in. My one small quibble is that a lot happens in the last five or so pages, and with this as the end, I'd have liked something of an epilogue to see how the characters I've come to love go on. Apart from the abrupt finish I have no complaints, and would recommend the entire series to anyone. I'd like to have a word with whoever keeps filing it under horror in Waterstones, mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Help is at hand for those with problem books, 2 Jan 2009
By Mr. N. A. Groat "Night Owl" (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
To all those who bought the book with the missing chapter... (and thanks for the "heads up" by the way, I appreciated the warnings!)

I've been in touch with Laurie Ip Fung Chun at William Heinemann Editorial and she has advised that ALL books are fine NOW. Those of you with problem books can obtain replacements by sending back the preliminary pages, along with the jacket/front cover to The Random House Group, 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London , SW1V 2SA.

I hope everyone gets the correct copy they deserve... eventually.

Hope you all have a happy 2009. Looking forward to reading this book now.
