not that great... 29 May 2008
By mlm - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the first solo album by Peter Moren, of Peter Bjorn and John fame. The album title, The Last Tycoon is a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Love of the Last Tycoon. The songs on the album are very simple, somber singer-songwriter songs which remind of Badly Drawn Boy (except they are not as good).

Reel to Real (track 1) is guitars and vocals, but mostly vocals, with simple lyrics. Reel to Real, This is What I Came For (track 7), and Social Competence (track 9) also feature some clapping. Social Competence is probably the most poppy track on this album with the catchy keyboard melodies and clapping. Old Love starts out slightly lo-fi with a small room reverb. Twisted (track 8) has more prominent keys and guitar. Tell Me in Time (track 5) also has more depth and harmonica.
