Product Description

Product Description

Simran likes Tyrone from the moment she spots him in the crowd. He's gorgeous and he won't take no for an answer. There's just one problem. Tyrone is black and Simran's not sure how her family will react. Even though her parents were a 'love match' and married each other against the wishes of their families, Simran doesn't think they will approve of her having a black boyfriend, and her nightmare uncles and aunts certainly won't. Like her cousin Ruby says, it's the last taboo. But Simran likes Tyrone too much to walk away, so they face the problems their relationship causes together. But it becomes harder than either of them predicted and when the hatred they encounter escalates into violence, with families and friends turning against each other, Simran and Tyrone are forced to question whether they are strong enough to fight for what they believe in.

From the Back Cover

‘Tyrone leaned across the table and gave me a long kiss. When I eventually opened my eyes I saw an Asian couple, middle-aged, on the next table along. You know that phrase – if looks could kill? Well, I was dead.’

Simran falls for Tyrone from the moment she spots him in the crowd. He’s gorgeous and won’t take no for an answer. There’s just one problem – Tyrone is black.

When two of Simran’s cousins from the Asian gang the Desi Posse find out that she is seeing Tyrone, things start to get out of control . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Bali Rai Book, 10 Oct 2006
I have read most of Bally Rai's book since starting with 'Rani & Sukh' last month and i have read them all in one day. The books are i think aimed at teenagers but beig a 30 yr old i still found it great and hard to put down. The characters in the book are all given there own individual charecteristics and the books gives you mixed up emotions of sadness and laughte all the way and i am sure that most of us will identify with at least one character! It gives a realistic view of life for asian people in the 21st centuary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teenage view of racism, 27 Jul 2009
By S. J. Boyce "Steve" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This excellently written and crafted book by Bali Rai looks at racism from a teenagers point of view. Interestingly set in the city of Leicester, a realistic backdrop to a real and believable cast of characters. This author writes with passsion and enthusiasm, the plot moves swiftly and I am sure that this book will become a modern masterpiece.
A truely recommended read for Years 8 to 11.

it was terrible- difficult to follow and unrealistic in places
it is most definitley for teenagers. The topic choice is profound but the book is not
the writer jumps all over the place
