This book finishes the journey of Thuro begun in "The Ghost King". Gemmell fantastically weaves an alternative explanation for the legendary King Arthur. I found this book spell-binding, I just couldn't stop reading it. The characters seemed to have more depth because they all have a place in our hearts and minds. I felt their pain, I shared their tears and as always when I read a Gemmell novel I was devastated when it reached its end! Fantasy at its very best - may Gemmell write forever!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read ! 23 July 2009
Format:Paperback
If you enjoyed The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings or any other fantasy type novels, then you simply must give David Gemmell a chance. He wrote many books, based around particular 'worlds' which make up a series. Sadly he died a few years ago so these excellent books won't be supplemented in the future. I firmly believe him to be the very best fantasy author of recent times and strongly urge you to give him a try. He links accepted historical information and moulds it into fiction in such a way that it is very believable and draws you into that world. You really won't be dissapointed.

If you are a fan of David Gemmell's books this will not disappoint. If you have read and enjoyed the Ghost King it's worth reading on to see what happens to the characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars last sword of power 14 Jan 2013
By Delboy
Format:Kindle Edition
Is one of the first series of books written by Gemmell and as such not as well written as the later books such as lion of macedon and dark prince. However still a good yarn and better than most fantasy fiction writers

3.0 out of 5 stars By anyone else it would be good. 17 April 2012

I couldn't get into this book. It feels lackluster for a DG fantasy. No characters I loved or hated, No outcome I was rooting for or dreading. This is the only DG book that hasn't done it for me. if your going to read your first DG fantasy please don't start with this series. Go with Drenai series, Legend is the first book.

1.0 out of 5 stars poor 3 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
I am a big David Gemmell fan and this just is not even close to being good never mind his usual best, story is slow and never really goes anywhere. You have no feeling of any sort for the charecters. If you like Gemmell avoid this it will put you off for years it did me

This book continues the story of Uther, giving a satifying end to the story begun in Ghost King.
