Book Description

18 Dec 2011
Randy Couture, the most decorated fighter and champion in UFC history and acknowledged by many to be the greatest fighter in the sport of mixed martial arts, is revered by champions and fans alike. Couture has been able to parlay himself from the Octagon into Hollywood, landing major roles in Sylvester Stallone s The Expendables I and II, and has become a prominent athlete-turnedactor working alongside some of Hollywood s major players. This unique book chronicles the final steps of a champion. As Couture prepares for his final competition, he reflects on his 27 years as an athlete and competitor. His thoughts are paired with exclusive photographs shot by long-time friend and photographer Sara Levin. The Last Round is a visual exploration into the world of a combat sports athlete. The serendipitous nature of the Holga camera and the film technique characteristically reflect the element of fortune that has pervaded Couture s journey into MMA and his continued success. The imperfections and unpredictable results of the photographic process capture the brutal reality of Couture s journey. The Last Round is an intriguing and unprecedented approach to documenting the journey of a hero s final battle. The candid style and intimacy engage and connect the viewer. Couture is arguably one of the most prolific and adulated fighters to have ever emerged in combat sports in recent times. If you re a fan of Randy Couture, UFC, MMA or combat sports, you will not be disappointed. This book is a must for any enthusiast and fan of combat sports.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too little story. 6 July 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought this was going to be in the same vein as Being The Natural, but there is little in the way of narrative. The photos are fine, but not a book I will return to after first flick through. Which is a shame, because the last fight of his legendary career (albeit one he lost) deserved a bit more I thought.

A book for the die-hards.

Perhaps if there's a follow-up to his autobiography, he will go into more detail about the end of his fighting career.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally respect Randy. This book... not so much... 27 Feb 2012
By Will03 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have complete respect for Randy Couture. I read his auto-biography and it was very good. I have an almost reflexive habit of purchasing any MMA book that looks good (particularly biographies), but others as well. I've read Randy's, Chuck's, BJ's, Pat Miletich's, John McCarthy's, Brian Stann's Jen's Pulvers, as well as Fighter's Heart, Title Shot, Tapped Out and many others.

So pretty much as soon as I saw this one, I bought it too. I may be guilty of not reading the description thoroughly enough, but the book is simply a collection of photos leading up to Randy's last fight, and some minimal text.

The pictures were interesting, but an investment in this book will pretty much just be your contribution to the "Randy Couture Retirement Fund". There are definitely worse causes out there I guess-- Randy is a good guy for sure. But if I had to do it all again, I'd probably just send a check directly...

A great book which includes exclusive pics behind the scenes with Randy. If youre a MMA or Randy Couture fan its worth buying this book by the legend of the sport.
