Amazon.co.uk Review

Despite an irritating, tacked-on voice-over narration that somebody must have thought necessary to make sense of the story (it isn't), Last of the Dogmen is actually a very moving and magical film. Tom Berenger plays a Montana bounty hunter who helps an anthropologist (Barbara Hershey) search for the descendants of a Cheyenne tribe who disappeared in the 1870s. What the two find in a remote mountain stretch is an entire community of Cheyenne who have kept themselves cut off from the modern world. A Dances with Wolves parallel emerges as the white outsiders gradually fit in, but Last of the Dogmen stands up just fine without comparison to any other films. As in Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning movie, however, there are ways in which this film captures a similar sense of yearning, mystery and loss--not least being David Arnold's fine John Barry-esque score. --Tom Keogh

Following the criminals' trail, Gates arrives at a secluded spot where he discovers signs of a struggle, but no bodies or evidence other than a strange arrow shaft. Gates takes the mysterious arrow to Lillian Sloan, an expert in Native American culture, who identifies the weapon as an ancient artifact from the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers tribe. The tribe, massacred over 100 years ago, is believed to be extinct. However, what they discover deep in the Oxbow may prove an answer to both Lillian's dreams and Lewis' nightmares. Now, it's a desperate race against time as they try to save the last of the Dogmen from the destructive forces of the modern world. ...Last of the Dogmen

Wonderful 23 Dec 2003
Format:DVD
As a person who has always had a deep interest in Native American history and a person who enjoys nature, I truly loved this film. I was a year trying to find it, it was worth all the trouble.

A modern day fantasy that you'd wish would be true.

Follows in the same vein as Dances with Wolves and whilst this is a Native American theme it could apply to any 'lost' culture.

Slightly sentimental but doesn't detract from the storyline.

Watch and enjoy.

A Great Film 19 Nov 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
If you love Native Americans/their culture and a bit of modern day fantasy, you'll love this film. A great 'what if?' senario. Very authentic portrayal of the Sioux Indians.

Safe and clean
If you want a movie where you know from the beginning who is good and what will happen, this is the one to look for! I would have loved it when I was twelve.

Last of the Dogmen
A very enjoyable western - Tom Berenger was convincing as a cowboy keeping to the old ways, yet is anxious for technology to solve the mystery of The Oxbow. Read more

Great film
I found this film believable and excellent entertainment. So much better than the average science fiction violence Hollywood now feeds to the moron population.

Really rather a bad movie!!
In truth I followed the other reviews and bought this movie. What a bad idea! It is truly a terrible movie that is just rubbish. Move on to another good western and plenty of them.
